This is a J.C. Penney model 6217 reel to reel tape recorder from the early '70s. All it says on the back is "made in Japan," possibly by Sony, I'm not sure. This was the first reel to reel that I ever owned... if you don't count a cassette player as a reel to reel machine. It had two speakers but was not a stereo. It played monaural out of both speakers which were built into the sides of the machine. A nice little reel to reel machine for a young man like me who didn't have a lot of $$$. Lightweight, with a protective cover, it got the job done rather nicely. I worked as a radio announcer when I owned his and it was super easy to record all my own music onto reels using the station’s equipment. Quite a fringe benefit!

The show biz newspaper Variety reports: "G.I. Joe is now a Brussels-based outfit that stands for Global Integrated Joint Operating Entity, an international co-ed force of operatives who use hi-tech equipment to battle Cobra, an evil organization headed by a double-crossing Scottish arms dealer."

This is clipped from Trial by Fire: A Carrier Burns, a 1973 film produced by the United States Navy about the devastating 1967 fire aboard USS Forrestal off the coast of Vietnam. The film is unique in that it was produced from actual footage of the fire and emergency response efforts, both successful and unsuccessful, taken by on board cameras. Due to the first bomb blast killing nearly all of the specially trained firefighters on the ship, the remaining crew, who had no formal firefighting training, had to improvise. Though there were many firefighting tools available on the Forrestal, including emergency respirators, the general crew was not trained in their use and so were unable to use them correctly. In response to this tragedy, recommendations made were: development of a remote-control fire-fighting system for the flight deck, development of more stable ordnance, improvement in survival equipment, and increased training in emergency response and fire survival. This film has been used to teach new recruits firefighting and emergency response lessons learned in the mishap.

Many of you know me as a video producer and photographer. Here is my very first production back in 1976. It was an audio piece only, no video. With tomorrow being the election, I pushed this piece into a audio/video production.
This was way before editing equipment, just me with my cassette tape recorder, the mike in front of a speaker and my records. This was my actual voice back in 76!

the unique stove seen here is a circa 1920 Westinghouse Automatic Electric Range... the box above the burners on the stove as well as the clock sitting atop it was part of the original equipment: a mechanical device which apparently allowed for the "modern convenience" of pre-setting a specified time for the oven to turn on and off.
"The Westinghouse Electric Range will enable you to shop or play or rest when you please, with the comfortable certainty that you will never find your dinner scorched or dried out, and that the finest flavors will be retained.
Results are not only certain, but uniformly good, since the range, because of exact heat regulation, will always duplicate its happiest previous effort.
The Westinghouse Automatic Electric Range is doing this kind of cooking for thousands of women, in kitchens that stay cool, at a cost for current more reasonable than you might expect, and with considerable savings in food weight."

"Bennie and the Jets" was a Bernie Taupin song from a now renowned album that spent two whole months at number one in America. The 70s vinyl masterpiece is still bought over and over on CD now. This is due to its extended re-issues. Originally intended to be recorded in Jamaica, but later cancelled over the lack of studio equipment and country unrest. The hired staff responsible for the entire album were without any doubt in their mind unsafe. Elton was relieved to be able to get outta the Jamaican surroundings. Elton and the band decided to take themselves back over the Atlantic to a better equipped studio. A top-line recording studio they previously recorded in without turmoil. The mansion-sized studio was famous for many recordings. Artists such as Pink Floyd, The Bee Gees, and David Bowie brought out what is universally accepted as great albums from weeks in there. The particular studio, just conveniently located outside the city of Paris, France, situated right in a white chateau, alike Jackson's Neverland; which was more relaxing for the band to create something better than they had ever done previously.
With being surrounded by island crime threats, Elton and Bernie accomplished absolutely nothing in Jamaica. As it turned out, the result the team had presented to their record company was something that had various songs. Elton and Bernie's compositions had really no real connection to each other when listened. The appearance of a new Elton LP anywhere at this time was an event. Tens of thousands of albums were bought monthly. Almost by mistake, music fans noticed the unique 45 "stand-out" single.
"Bennie and the Jets," shot automatically up the crowded music charts the following year of '74. We all know, the early 70s was a "hot-bed" of fantastic music being ushered out monthly. Bernie Taupin's content filled song captured a generation successfully. With this classic song, if you carefully listen in on the studio version of "Bennie and the Jets" you will hear a series of enhancing sound effects that blended into it like water into a teabag. Elton was lucky to have hired an experienced, supportive album producer. Gus Dudgeon, who being aside him had a marvellous ear for making radio songs fuller and more ambient. And was known for being able to get the correct instruments in-line with the others to create an album of Bernie Taupin's lyrics flow into something long remembered. Gus Dudgeon wanted this LP to be uplifting considering the songs were quite gloomy in parts.
Bernie wrote down a visual-minded album for Elton to compose music with.
The producer created with the two an already hit-filled album of their combined songs. "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" has over the years become Elton John's top-selling album. In this seemingly live version, the Saturday TV program 'Soul Train' shows "Bennie and the Jets" found an audience with Black America. This was thanks to a bit of luck from a music insider who had an ear for cross-over hits. Elton had thought the song would never be able to capture radio as there were already so many songs he had thought were so much better. For some reason or another "Rhythm and Blues" stations were comfortable playing the 45 single instantaneously. The likely reason behind it was the continuance of the beat in the recording. It made it 'radio friendly,' that was really appealing in 1973/4 as it sounded fresh and new amongst all other songs at the time on the Billboard chart. Elton was composing music for Bernie without any effort. Both had created so much music that "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" was released as a double longplay release. This was chiefly responsible for getting it much airplay on FM radio stations. In this clip of the song, Elton kind of got carried away with the audience and dancers. Elton is known to really make different versions of certain sang from the heart songs during live sold-out concerts. He is a master showman, and carries a lot of musical history behind his career with writer Bernie Taupin.

Okay, here is glam superstar group ABBA and their last live performance. A portion of the show that simply was not broadcast due to time restrictions. In 1986, they did appear on Swed television only briefly. This ABBA classic was recorded in December of 1982 on the BBC show 'The Late, Late Breakfast Show.' What happened? Well, the program simply went off the air. It went over its scheduled time slot.
This was never shown in full. Recently, I saw an interview with Bjorn Ulvaeus who wrote 1/2 of the music in ABBA at his home in Stockholm. He spoke of an ABBA museum coming soon in his country, and showed that the instruments, and recording equipment used for many of ABBA's songs still exist today (untouched) at Atlantis Studios.
The Swedish superstars were a phenomenon in the 70s. A group that had the ability to make songs catch. Their original studio will be rebuilt for a traveling (2nd) museum that will be interactive for their worldwide fans. It has been 26 years since they offically went on a stage together to perform.
Apparently, the new moving museum will be traveling around Europe first. The Swedish foursome, including Agnetha Faltskog and Anni-Frid Lyngstaf have contributed to this musical museum.
Ulvaeus and the rest of ABBA have spoken out that they will never reform their Swedish group.
The "grounded" ABBA museum in Stockholm is the next best thing. There is still more of ABBA to be shared from the studio group.
What broke up this band? Uncomfortable feelings, that about sums it all up.
Yes, this show 'The Late, Late Breakfast Show' broadcast via Stockholm live is it. Björn and Benny have said they were offered a lot of money about five to seven years ago for a reunion, but it was passed. Benny and his partner Bjorn, of course have said without Agnetha and Frida there is no ABBA. During July of 2008, it was noted that the group did participate in the "Mama Mia!" film premiere in Stockholm. With this movie released, big money was not going to get them together. The group have made enough royalties from their songs to keep them happy for years ahead.
