Scenes of the 60s Bonanza with Johnny Cash singing the theme to Bonanza. If you ever wondered what the words to the song were here it is. A wonderful job by Ellen Tracy.

Lugosi, the youngest of four children, was born Béla Ferenc Dezső Blaskó' in Lugos, Hungary on October 20, 1882. On arrival in America, the 6-feet-1 inch, 180 lb. Lugosi worked for some time as a laborer, then returned to the theater within the Hungarian-American community. He was approached to star in a play adapted by Hamilton Deane and John L. Balderston from Bram Stoker's novel Dracula. The Horace Liveright production was successful. Despite his excellent notices in the title role, and appearances in some American silent films, Lugosi had to campaign vigorously for the chance to repeat his stage success in Tod Browning's movie version of Dracula (1931), produced by Universal Pictures.

Cass Elliot was born Ellen Naomi Cohen on Sept 19th 1941. Her restauranteur father nicknamed her'Cass' after the Trojan princess, Cassandra. She adopted the name Cass Elliot during her teens. The name Mama Cass evolved from her involvement with the Mamas and Papas.
This is what John Phillips said about Cass in an interview in August 1995 at Paramount Studios: "Her father had a deli in New York. I remember her as a little, chubby girl, with the stained apron on, behind the counter. [Laughs] We were sort of infamous in that area, and when she got to New York, she knew who we were, but we didn't know who she was. And she had met Denny, and Denny said, "I know this girl that sings wonderfully. We should have her over and sing with her." It happened to be that LSD was actually legal at the time. It wasn't a banned drug or anything. We searched all over the Village and found some contemporary artist who had some and he gave it to us. We were about to take it that night, when the knock on the door came and Cass came in. So we all had it together the same night, for the first time, and I think that formed a bond between the four of us that we just never stopped singing. We just went on and on and on and on, until the trip wore off, which was about four years later."
Cass Elliott died July 29, 1974. Contrary to what many people have been led to believe over the years, she did not choke on a sandwich. According to her doctor, the cause was heart failure.

This song, I Got a Name, was released as an album the day after Jim (who was just 30) died on September 20, 1973. He and his songwriter-guitarist,Maury Muehleisen had just completed a concert in Natchitoches, Louisiana, and were flying to Sherman, Texas, along with a comic who was part of their warm up
show. The pilot and all passengers were killed instantly at 10:45 PM EST, less than an hour after the end of their last concert. Upon takeoff, the small plane did not gain enough altitude to clear an area of large pecan trees at the end of the runway. The official report from the NTSB stated that the charter pilot, who had severe coronary artery disease, may have suffered a heart attack causing him to crash the plane into the trees on a clear runway with excellent visibility. A later investigation placed sole blame for the accident on pilot error.

Remember when this anthology program spanned the globe to bring you the constant variety of sport? The voice is Jim McKay. (To my great delight Wide World of Sports showed many excellent boxing matches in the 1970s and 1980s.)

I first saw this with my kids, and at that time it was laughable yet still a little creepy, especially the officer Mooney (John Vernon) puppet scene. As the years have passed, I've grown to appreciate its dark humor, excellent craftsmanship of clown costumes, and ultra-cheesiness. KKFOS is definitely one of my top five campy horror films of all time.

What do you notice about this cover of Sports Illustrated that is highly unusual? It has no caption! Excellent decision by SI's editors. The dramatic story and sheer joy of the 1980 U.S. Olympic hockey team spoke volumes.
