John Carpenter Wins a Million Dollars Remember when Who Wants To Be A Millionaire was a huge ratings hit (before the producers ruined it with all those inane celebrity editions)? Well, if you do, you'll remember this famous final question when contestant John Carpenter calmly used his telephone lifeline to inform his dad he was about to win the jackpot. How cool was that?

Winston Churchill Fight Them On The Beaches Speech In June 1940 German forces occupied virtually all of western Europe. France and Belgium were on the verge of total collapse. The British Expeditionary Force had been evacuated from the beaches of Dunkirk to fight another day. England stood alone against mighty Nazi Germany. Winston Churchill, who had been British prime minister for just a month, broadcast this famous, defiant oration. Listen as one of the great figures of the 20th century delivers probably his most famous speech of the Second World War era. Churchill's 'fight them on the beaches' speech sets the tone of the war for the entire British Empire.

Muhammad Ali Says I Am King Cassius Clay/Muhammad Ali graces the cover of the April 1964 edition of The Ring magazine, modestly proclaiming himself to be 'the king' after his title-winning upset over Sonny Liston in February. After his victory, Clay announced to the world that he was shedding his 'slave name.' He briefly called himself 'Cassius X' before adopting the name Muhammad Ali. Nevertheless, many media folks continued to refer to him as Cassius Clay well into the 1970s.

First SI Swimsuit Issue The January 20, 1964 edition of Sports Illustrated was the first time the magazine featured swimsuit-clad beauties. The cover model, 21-year-old Babette March, looks positively Victorian compared to cover girls of recent years. (In case you're wondering, Babette's wearing a leather bikini!)

Jackie Gleason on Whats My Line Jackie Gleason was the mystery challenger on the March 8, 1953 edition of What's My Line. Amazingly, he has the panel stumped for quite a long time. I guess he wasn't yet the showbiz legend in 1953 that he later became.
