Probably the earliest flight simulator ever made for kids and one of the greatest toys ever made! Made by the "Deluxe Reading" toy company in the early 1960's, and sold mainly in supermarkets. (You could also get them by mail-order from the old Spiegel catalog and other mail-order firms as well.) You controlled the steering with a yoke as your jet flew over moving terrain, (a rotating scenery cylinder,) controlling your airspeed as you lined up a "target," then fired (actual) rubber-tipped missiles by pulling the two missile-launching levers. Enough dials, levers, chrome and noise to delight any young fighter pilot! It was a blast knocking down my little green army men with the missiles! It used 4 'D' batteries.

Here's a show from the 1976 "Johnny Cash & Friends" summer series, with Johnny & June engaging in some humorous dialogue (comparing themselves to Sonny & Cher; June doesn't have a navel?) and then performing their signature song "Jackson". Johnny really hams it up in this performance. Also, notice Johnny's reaction when it seems June gives him a playful kick. And check out the kiss at the end! Good days to remember,

Grace Patricia Kelly was born in Philadelphia on Nov 12, 1929. As a young child, Grace decided she wanted to become an actress, and studied acting (primarily theater) at the American Academy of Dramatic Art and worked as an actress and model in New York before moving to Hollywood. When she was in New York, Grace promoted Old Gold cigarettes and appeared on the covers of magazines such as Cosmopolitan and Redbook. Grace debuted in the film 14 Hours, in a minor supporting role, but then starred in High Noon, in which she was cast as a mousey Quaker bride. She then appeared in Mogambo with Clark Gable, which won her an Academy Award nomination and a Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actress. Her work in High Noon and a screen test for the film Taxi caught the attention of director Alfred Hitchcock, who molded Grace into his ideal of the elegant, beautiful blonde. She gave Hitchcock wonderful performances in Dial M for Murder, Rear Window, and To Catch a Thief. But Grace went against Hitchcock's vision of her for the film The Country Girl, which won her the Golden Globe and the Academy Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role of 1954. The success of the song in this clip, True Love, performed by Grace and Bing Crosby, is from the film High Society, which earned her a gold record. In 1956, she was voted the Golden Globe's World Film Favorite Female Actor. In 1956, she married Prince Rainier Grimaldi III of Monaco to become Her Serene Highness Princess Grace of Monaco. Because of her royalty, she was forced to give up her successful acting career, in which she made eleven films. She had three children: Caroline, Albert, and Stephanie. Grace died on September 14, 1982, after her car went off a road on the cliffs of Monaco.

This clip is odd for a couple of reasons: It's been colorized and the dialogue is in German! However, the important part--Alfalfa singing Let Me Call You Sweetheart--is in English. This is from the episode Hearts Are Thumps (1937) in which Alfalfa's buddies, angry that he has betrayed the principles of the He-Man Woman-Haters Club, sabotage his lunch with soap.

A classic scene with the prince himself, Christopher Lee. This is the third of Hammer's Dracula films and the second to star Christopher Lee. He declined a part in Brides of Dracula, because he didn't want to be typecast. Lee cemented his position as Lugosi's heir to the part here, despite having no dialogue. The screenplay reportedly had Dracula uttering lines like, "I am the apocalypse!" which Lee refused to speak aloud on film and really, who can blame him?

Always ranked among the greatest Hollywood movies ever made is Orson Welles' masterpiece Citizen Kane (1941). In the movie's final scene we learn what Charles Foster Kane's last word ('Rosebud') referred to. This clip has a bit of Italian dialogue dubbed into it. Pay no attention to it; it is unimportant.
