First Issue of Playboy Magazine The first issue, published in December 1953, did not carry a date, as Hefner was unsure whether there would be a second issue. It was produced in Hefner's Hyde Park kitchen. The first centerfold was Marilyn Monroe, although the picture used had originally been taken for a calendar, rather than for Playboy. The first issue was an immediate sensation; it sold out within a matter of weeks. The cover price was 50˘. Copies of the first issue in Mint to Near Mint condition sold for over $5,000 in 2002.

Walt Disneys Bambi 1942 Here is an updated trailer for children of all ages. Bambi will be 65 years old today, August 13th. I don't think any other Disney film was quite as dear to my heart as this one.

WWII Nose Art pretty risque "LUCKY LADY"! i was looking for a pic of Marjorie Bong Drucker for jimmyjet . . who went from homecoming queen to World War II "nose art" queen. She met and dated military aviator Richard I. Bong in 1943. When he returned to combat, he put her picture on his plane rather than one of the pinup girl paintings known during the war as "nose art." And when Bong became the top U.S. air ace of the war, his girlfriend's image became famous throughout the United States. After he returned from the front, the two had a storybook marriage. . .

Jeanne Crain The Girl Next Door Jeanne Crain was born in Barstow, California on May 25, 1925. It was this latter film which garnered her an Oscar nomination as Best Actress for her role as Pinky Johnson, a nurse who sets up a clinic in the Deep South. She lost to Olivia de Havilland for THE HEIRESS. In 1967, she appeared in a low budget suspense yarn called HOT RODS TO HELL. Her final film to date was as Clara Shaw in 1972's SKYJACKED. Jeanne died of a heart attack in Santa Barbara, California on December 14, 2003. Her husband Paul had died two months earlier. Jeanne was 78.

Bathing Beauty this is one of the pics i like from a photo album found at a swap meet in Huntington Beach, California. From the writing in the album, I think these photos date between 1956 and 1969.

1957 Frances Farmer Update when i posted the photo of a glamorous and radiant Frances Farmer, i became interested in her life and career. As Sophia stated, reports of her 'institutional life' are conflicting (i.e. whether or not she had indeed had a lobotomy). What was evident, however, was that she was repeatedly subjected to insulin shock therapy and “hydrotherapy.” Now illegal, this barbaric practice consisted of her being stripped naked and thrown into a tub of icy water for six to eight hours at a time. . .i didn't intend to blog on this, but was so horrified at the treatment of the mentally ill.. that i couldn't stand it!
