Crystal Pepsi was introduced to consumers in the U.S., Canada and Australia in 1992. Crystal Pepsi was marketed as a caffeine-free "clear alternative" to normal colas, equating clearness with purity and health. Its marketing slogan was, "You've never seen a taste like this". At one point Crystal Pepsi accounted for one percent of total soft drink sales in the United States, but the public soon lost interest in the clear beverage. It was quietly discontinued in 1993.

On August 17, 1896, Mrs. Bridget Driscoll, age 44, became the first recorded autombile fatality. She stepped off a curb in the Crystal Palace section of London, England and was struck by a demonstration car travelling 4 miles per hour driven by Arthur Edsel. (Really! That was his true name!)
