Father Knows Best was the classic wholesome family situation comedy. It was set in the typical Midwestern community of Springfield, where Jim Anderson was an agent for the General Insurance Company. Every evening he would come home from work, take off his sport jacket, put on his comfortable sweater, and deal with the everyday problems of a growing family. In contrast to most other family comedies of the period, in which one of the other parents was a blundering idiot, both Jim and his wife Margaret were portrayed as thoughtful, responsible adults. When a family crisis arose, Jim would calm the waters with a warm smile and some sensible advice.
The show originally aired on radio in 1958. CBS debuted it in 1954, but it was cancelled after one year. NBC picked it up and put it in an earlier time slot, where the whole family could watch it. The show then ran successfully for the next five years and became a television classic.

This 1970 clip of Canadian prime minister Pierre Trudeau is probably unknown to Americans, but it's very famous in Canada. In October 1970, a radical French-Canadian separatist group, the FLQ, began a reign of terror in the province of Quebec. James Cross, a visiting British diplomat, was kidnapped. Shortly afterward, Pierre Laporte, a Quebec cabinet minister, was also kidnapped. (Laporte's dead body was found a few days later.) Prime minister Trudeau responded by invoking Canada's War Measures Act which gave the government extraordinary powers to preserve order. The civil libertarians didn't like it, but it was the most popular thing Trudeau ever did. Watch him as he fields questions from a left-leaning TV reporter.

Andrea True (born July 26, 1943, Nashville, Tennessee) is a former adult film star who was also a singer during the disco era. During her heyday as a porn actress, True was hired by a real estate business on the Caribbean island of Jamaica to produce a commercial. During her stay, a political crisis gripped the island and no one was allowed to leave with any money. Not wanting to lose her hard-earned money, True asked her friend, record producer Gregg Diamond to travel to the island and produce a track for her, which she would finance locally. Diamond arrived with a composition in hand, to which True added lyrics. The result of their collaboration was the now disco classic "More, More, More". in 1976
ultimately remixed by producer Tom Moulton, More, More, More became a favorite in discos and nightclubs. It ultimately reached #4 on the Billboard Hot 100, and a full album with the same title soon followed. The single also reached the charts in Great Britain (where it peaked at # 5) and Germany (where it peaked at # 9).

Similar in style to The Twilight Zone, though tending more toward hard science, space travel, time travel, and human evolution, it tried to examine in each show some form of the question, 'What is the nature of man?'. The Outer Limits was an anthology show in which each episode was a self-contained story, sometimes with a plot twist. In its original incarnation the show ran for two seasons from 1963 to 1965 in black-and-white. The original title was 'Please Stand By', but at the time, America was facing the Cuban Missile Crisis and the executives thought it might make people fearful of an air raid. This is why, later in the newer series when the show would cut to a commercial, the Control Voice said, "Please stand by." A tip-of-the-hat to the original series title.

You've got to love these old Folger's Coffee commercials from the early 1960s. They're all pretty much the same: Doting wife's biggest concern in life is making the perfect cup of coffee for hubby. She fails miserably until she switches to instant Folger's. Once this crisis is solved, presumably hubby and wife can produce their statistical average of 2.2 children and live the American Dream.
