A cool plastic model of Wonder Woman made by Aurora in 1966. Sales of this kit were dismal and it appears that young boys just weren't interested in woman superheros. Wonder Woman is controling the menancing octopus with her magic lasso. A truly cool 60s kit!

Probably the earliest flight simulator ever made for kids and one of the greatest toys ever made! Made by the "Deluxe Reading" toy company in the early 1960's, and sold mainly in supermarkets. (You could also get them by mail-order from the old Spiegel catalog and other mail-order firms as well.) You controlled the steering with a yoke as your jet flew over moving terrain, (a rotating scenery cylinder,) controlling your airspeed as you lined up a "target," then fired (actual) rubber-tipped missiles by pulling the two missile-launching levers. Enough dials, levers, chrome and noise to delight any young fighter pilot! It was a blast knocking down my little green army men with the missiles! It used 4 'D' batteries.

A really cool classic toy from the 60s produced by Marx Toys. Garloo was a very large battery operated that retailed for a whopping $17.98 in 1961! That was a ton of money! You can steer Garloo with the little steering wheel on the remote control on his battery box, move him forward or backward, open or close his arms and make him bend over to pic up objects. Marx also put out a 3 inch metal and plastic wind-up called Son of Garloo.

She began her career as a model and was discovered for films by director Alfred Hitchcock, who saw her in a commerical and cast her in "The Birds" (1963; with Rod Taylor). "Marnie" (1964), a psychological thriller from the novel by Winston Graham, was Hedren's second Hitchcock assignment. Although Hitchcock continued to have Hedren in mind for several other films after "Marnie", the actress had become increasingly uncomfortable with his possessive manner and she declined any further work with him. Other directors who wanted to hire her had to go through Hitchcock, who would inform them she was unavailable. "It grew to be impossible. He was a very controlling type of person, and I guess I'm not about to be controlled", said Hedren, who bought out her contract. Ending their professional relationship on a sour note, she recalled, "He said, 'Well, I'll ruin your career.' And he did."
** Hedren's daughter is actress Melanie Griffith.**
also *** She was named Nathalie Hedren, but given the nikname Tippi as a baby by her Swedish father from the Swedish "Tupsa" which means sweetheart. ***

Exciting new technology for 1955, I don't think there could have been much channel hopping then.

Lester Gillis, better known as Baby Face Nelson, due to his youthful appearance, was a diminutive 5'4" tall bank robber in the 1930s. Born in Chicago, he began his criminal career stealing cars. He also worked for a time as an enforcer for Al Capone, fought with Capone's ally and outfit member Anthony Accetturo, and received broken bones for his troubles, but he was let go due to being "too violent" for Capone to control. Nelson came to greater prominence in 1934, when he joined the Dillinger gang. He was the antithesis of popular, Robin Hood-like gangsters of the Depression era. Having a psychopathic bent, he didn't hesitate to kill lawmen and innocent bystanders. In contrast though, Nelson was a devoted husband and father who often had his wife and children with him while running from the law. A running machine gun battle with FBI agents took place on November 27, 1934. It started when Nelson, his wife, and John Paul Chase were driving down a road and saw a police car driving the opposite direction. Nelson hated police and federal agents and used a list of license plates he had compiled to actively hunt them at every opportunity. He had recognized the car and decided to chase them. Once they both stopped, the shootout started. Nelson and Chase used their car for cover, however, he charged at the police and opened fire. Even though he was shot 17 times, he was still able to steal the agents car after killing them. Nelson's wife and Chase helped him into the car and with Nelson giving directions, Chase drove away from the scene. Nelson succumbed to his wounds at approximately 8pm that evening and was unceremoniously dumped near a Skokie, Illinois, cemetery. He holds the dubious distinction of being personally responsible for the killing of more federal agents than any other criminal.
