Ideal Toys introduced Clancy in 1962 and sales took off! Even grouchy old coots would crack a smile watching Clancy in action!!! Toss a coin in Clancy's hat and he'll skate towards you, or you could hold his hand and he'd skate as you walked along. Another GREAT Ideal toy. Like the jingle says, "It's a Wonderful Toy, It's IDEAL!"

Tom Servo is a red puppet that has a gumball machine (Carousel Executive Snack Dispenser) for a head, a body composed of a toy "Money Lover Barrel" coin bank and a toy car engine block, and a bowl-shaped hovercraft skirt (a Halloween 'Boo Bowl') instead of legs. Because of this, he must be carried into the theater by Joel or Mike, as there is a grate near the door that he can't hover over. His arms are a pair of small white ventriloquist's dummy hands on the ends of springs that are not really functional as arms, a point that is commented on occasionally throughout the series. Some episodes feature Tom with objects already in his hands, raising the unanswered question of how they got there; possibly Servo's arms are only functional on a sporadic basis. His shoulders are made from the front of an Eveready Floating Lantern. Because Servo's head is transparent, chromakeyed images appear projected through it, and thus a second puppet was built for use in the theater segments, entirely spray-painted black.

One of the great movie endings ever! To truly appreciate this scene you should watch City Lights (1931) in its entirety. Nevertheless, here's a brief summary: Charlie Chaplin's tramp character has been mistaken as a rich man by a blind flower girl. Charlie gets into all sorts of misadventures in order to raise enough money for an operation that will restore the girl's sight. He ends up going to prison. This scene is set months later when Charlie is released from jail. Charlie is more bedraggled than usual. (Note he doesn't have his bamboo cane!) Charlie passes by an upscale flower shop and sees the girl who now has her vision. She takes pity on Charlie and gives him a coin. She then recognizes him by the mere touch of his hand and realizes the sacrifices he must have made for her. Pass the tissues!

When the Beatles announced their break up in the winter of 1970, CCR became the most successful band and the biggest singles act in the world, despite never landing a #1 single. Always very private, the group never became stars personally to befit their status on the pop charts. They sought to change that with the release of Pendulum. Before the album's release, they had a fan type book written. Called "Inside Creedence", the book took about six weeks from the time it was conceived until it was actually published, coincidental with the release of Pendulum. In fact, many copies of the book were sold packaged with the record. The band also made a television special and had a $30,000 press junket to ballyhoo the album. The record shipped a million copies. Opening Intro for the 50's Television show "Your Hit Parade". Your Hit Parade was a popular radio and television program, sponsored by Lucky Strike cigarettes and broadcast from 1935 to 1955 on radio and telecast from 1950 to 1959. During this 24-year run, the show had 19 orchestra leaders and 52 singers or groups.
Each Saturday evening at 8pm, a hit parade of the more popular and bestselling songs of the week were presented. The original format involved a presentation of the top 15 tunes. Later, a countdown with fanfares led to the top three finalists, with the number one song for the finale. Occasional performances of standards and other favorite songs from the past were known as "Lucky Strike Extras."
Listeners were informed that "Your Hit Parade survey checks the best sellers on sheet music and phonograph records, the songs most heard on the air and most played on the automatic coin machines, an accurate, authentic tabulation of America's taste in popular music." However, the exact procedure of this "authentic tabulation" remained a secret. Some believe song choices were often arbitrary due to various performance and production factors. The show's ad agencies never revealed the specific sources or the methods that were used to determine the top hits.

Before Abraham Lincoln's portrait was featured on American one-cent coins, the design on the coin was the Indian Head. The attractive design was created by James Longacre. Rumor has it that Longacre used his daughter's likeness for the face. They were minted in the millions from 1859 to 1909. Because so many were put into circulation, they are still relatively cheap to acquire from coin dealers.

Homer, disturbed by the box of Mr. Sparkle, contacts the manufacturer in Hokkaido, Japan for information. He is sent a promotional video for Mr. Sparkle, which consists of a bizarre TV commercial. At the end of the video, the mascot is shown to be a result of a joint venture between two large Japanese conglomerates whose mascots, a fish and light bulb, merge together to form Mr. Sparkle, thus, Homer discovers it was all a mere coincidence.

One of the most successful world's fairs ever held was Expo '67 in Montreal. It happened to coincide with Canada's centennial year. The fair was held on two artificial islands built in the St. Lawrence River. The islands were created using the dirt excavated from Montreal's subway construction. Expo was the place to be that summer!
