British stop motion animated children's television series. The first episode was broadcast by the BBC on November 16, 1969 and a further twenty-five episodes were made. The twenty sixth episode was broadcast on November 10, 1972 and the final Clangers programme was a four minute election special on October 10, 1974. The programme featured a number of small creatures living in peace and harmony on - and in - a small, hollow planet far far away, nourished by Blue String Pudding, and Green Soup harvested from the planet's volcanic soup wells by the Soup Dragon. The Clangers looked similar to mice and anteaters, though they were pink, wore clothes, and spoke in whistles. These whistles (performed on swanee whistles)followed the rhythm and intonation of a script in the English language, including swear-words!

Who'd a thought he'd be doing this. I must admit I like these styles better than what the kids are wearing now.

Lucy Ricardo - a "Paris Original"?
Episode 147, "Lucy Gets a Paris Gown", originally aired on March 19, 1956. The Ricardos and the Mertzes are thrilled to be in Paris. As a special treat for Lucy and Ethel, Ricky snags coveted tickets for a Jacques Marcel fashion show. Of course, after seeing the designer’s clothes, Lucy vows that she will have a Jacques Marcel dress. When pleading fails, Lucy goes on a hunger strike. Ricky breaks down and buys the dress, but then discovers that Ethel is sneaking food to Lucy. As revenge, Ricky and Fred design burlap potato sack dresses, complete with Jacques Marcel labels and a horse’s feedbag hat for Lucy. The French designer sees Lucy and Ethel wearing the dresses at a café and Ricky confesses. In a hilarious final twist, Jacques Marcel steals the designs -- but the girls have destroyed their originals!

We Five's only other chart hit aside from "You Were On My Mind" was "Let's Get Together," which reached #31 on the Billboard Hot 100. I didn't have to look up the release date of this song, it was 1965, the year I graduated High School and had a dream of joining the Peace Corps. Never happened. Of course you recognize Fred Astaire, who hosted Hollywood Palace that night. And the clothes and faces of that group, so fresh and clean, definitely not the grunge look that took over later on!

Bart Orlando demonstrates that one person has the power to wash clothes in a pedal powered Wringer washing machine. The wringer eliminates the spin dry function, standard on modern washing machines. One person can do 1/3 of a normal load of laundry in about 30 minutes.
An exercise bike is substituted for the orignal 2hp 110v electric motor. A fan-belt is rapped around the flywheel of the exercise bike and a pulley which drives the original transmission of the Wringer Washer. . . humm . .

A clip from the late 40's TV series, 'The Morey Amsterdam Show', also featuring a young Art Carney. This scene features some then-topical jokes about late 40's TV. 'The Morey Amsterdam Show' was a sitcom/variety show that aired on the DuMont Television Network. The show ran from 1948-1950, and almost every episode is preserved at UCLA. This is quite lucky, since very little TV programming from the 40's still exists, and little DuMont Network programming still exists. The DuMont Television Network broadcasted from 1946-1956, and is largely forgotten. Some popular DuMont TV programs included 'Captain Video and His Video Rangers', 'Life is Worth Living', 'Rocky King Detective', 'Cavalcade of Stars' and 'The Plainclothesman'. It's believed that some time after DuMont went out of business, Its archive was dumped into an upper NY bay. Still, Some DuMont broadcasts still exist, including over 200 kinescopes at UCLA, and more at the Museum of Television and Radio.

"Well Billy rapped all night about his suicide
How he'd kick it in the head when he was 25.
Speed jive. Don't wanna stay alive when you're 25.
And Wendy's stealing clothes from Marks & Sparks
And Freddie's got spots from ripping off the stars from his face.
Funky little boat race.
The television man is crazy
Saying we're juvenile delinquent wrecks.
I need T.V. when I got T-Rex.
Oh brother, you guessed, I'm a dude now.
CHORUS:
All the young dudes (hey dudes)
Carry the news (where are ya)
Boogaloo dudes (stand up come on)
Carry the news
All the young dudes (I want to hear you)
Carry the news (I want to see you)
Boogaloo dudes (and I want to talk to you all of you)
Carry the news
Now Lucy looks sweet cause he dresses like a queen
But he can kick like a mule; it's a real mean team.
But, we can love. Yes, we can love.
And my brother's back home with his Beatles and his Stones.
We never got off with that revolution stuff.
What a drag. Too many snags.
Well, I drunk a lot of wine and I'm feeling fine.
Gonna race some cat to bed.
Oh man, is this concrete all around
Or is it all in my head.
Brother, I'm a dude now.
All the young dudes (hey dudes)
Carry the news (where are ya)
Boogaloo dudes (stand up)
Carry the news
All the young dudes (I want to hear ya)
Carry the news (I want to see you)
Boogaloo dudes (and I want to relate to you)
Carry the news
All the young dudes (what dudes)
Carry the news (lets hear the news come on)
Boogaloo dudes (I want to kick you)
Carry the news
All the young dudes (hey you there with the glasses)
Carry the news (I want you)
Boogaloo dudes (I want you at the front)
Carry the news (now you all his friends)
All the young dudes (now you bring him down cause I want him)
Carry the news
Boogaloo dudes (I want him right here bring him come on)
Carry the news (bring him here you go)
All the young dudes (Ive wanted to do this for years)
Carry the news (there you go)
Boogaloo dudes (how do you feel)
Carry the news " . . .

i love this photo . . it seems to capture the '70s Northern California culture . . the hair; the clothes; the round oak table; the funky old apartment and, of course, the giant bowl of sangria. . .
