ELVIS My Way This is Elvis in concert, taped live in June, two months before his passing on August 16, 1977. Even though his health had declined, his voice was still as strong and clear as it had always been.

REMEMBERING PATSY CLINE Patsy became a legend, both with country and non country fans. She had a voice so strong and clear, I remember her making me cry more than once, and what a great yodeler! Like many musically gifted performers she died tragically, and too young. I often wonder what other music she would have given us if she hadn't left us so soon.

Tippi and Hitchcock She began her career as a model and was discovered for films by director Alfred Hitchcock, who saw her in a commerical and cast her in "The Birds" (1963; with Rod Taylor). "Marnie" (1964), a psychological thriller from the novel by Winston Graham, was Hedren's second Hitchcock assignment. Although Hitchcock continued to have Hedren in mind for several other films after "Marnie", the actress had become increasingly uncomfortable with his possessive manner and she declined any further work with him. Other directors who wanted to hire her had to go through Hitchcock, who would inform them she was unavailable. "It grew to be impossible. He was a very controlling type of person, and I guess I'm not about to be controlled", said Hedren, who bought out her contract. Ending their professional relationship on a sour note, she recalled, "He said, 'Well, I'll ruin your career.' And he did." ** Hedren's daughter is actress Melanie Griffith.** also *** She was named Nathalie Hedren, but given the nikname Tippi as a baby by her Swedish father from the Swedish "Tupsa" which means sweetheart. ***

Dracula Prince of Darkness 1964 A classic scene with the prince himself, Christopher Lee. This is the third of Hammer's Dracula films and the second to star Christopher Lee. He declined a part in Brides of Dracula, because he didn't want to be typecast. Lee cemented his position as Lugosi's heir to the part here, despite having no dialogue. The screenplay reportedly had Dracula uttering lines like, "I am the apocalypse!" which Lee refused to speak aloud on film and really, who can blame him?

Whitney Houston Live I Will Always Love You An awesome performance of "I Will Always Love You", (from the 1992 film The Bodyguard with Kevin Costner) at Divas 1999. Whitney Houston was one of a few black artists to receive heavy rotation on MTV in the 1980's during a male rock dominated time, in the network's early years. AOL Black Voices said "Though her success seemed like a lightening rod, it was always validated by Whitney's polished and powerful vocal abilities - making her known as "The Voice". After marrying R&B singer Bobby Brown at the height of her career, rumors of drug and spousal abuse led to a decline in her album sales and her public image. Her personal troubles were talked about more than any of her music, and she regularly appeared in the tabloid press. Houston began looking and sounding less like the singer people came to know and she stopped making public appearances. She underwent two drug rehab programs in 2005 and 2006. After a successful second program in 2006, she divorced Bobby Brown and gained custody of their daughter, Bobbi Kristina. She has since been working on her 7th studio album with music mogul and close friend and mentor Clive Davis.

kd lang and the Honky Tonk Angels Video for the Honky Tonk Angels, featuring kd lang, Loretta Lyn, Kitty Wells and Brenda Lee, and produced by Owen Bradley for kd's album Shadowland. kd lang, who was born in Edmonton Alberta Canada, was first drawn to country music when she attended college. Soon, she became fascinated with the life and music of Patsy Cline and ultimately determined to pursue a career as a professional singer. Lang formed a Patsy Cline tribute band called the Reclines in 1983, and they recorded a debut album, Friday Dance Promenade. A follow-up album, A Truly Western Experience, was released in 1984 and received strong reviews which led to national attention in Canada. Singing at country and western venues in Canada, she made several recordings that earned a 1985 Canadian Juno Award for Most Promising Female Vocalist. Her career received a huge boost when Roy Orbison chose her to record a duet of his standard, "Crying". Instead of being overwhelmed by the power of Orbison's voice, the two blended their vocal ranges into a collaboration that won them the Grammy Award for Best Country Collaboration with Vocals. 1988 marked the release of Shadowland, an album of torch country produced by the legendary Owen Bradley.
