The Quiet Man - Fight Scene There's nothing better than a good punch-up! The recent death of actress Maureen O'Hara prompted me to revisit the film The Quiet Man. The climax of the 1952 John Ford classic is the brawl between Sean Thornton (John Wayne) and Will Danaher (Victor McLaglen). Here is more than nine minutes of the famous and comical donnybrook!

Eagles Guitarist Glenn Frey Passes at 67 A message on THE EAGLES website confirms that founding member/guitarist GLENN FREY has died at the age of 67. FREY had surgery in NOVEMBER and has been suffering from intestinal issues for months. He relapsed before the holidays, forcing THE EAGLES to pull out of their KENNEDY CENTER HONORS appearance in DECEMBER. "GLENN fought a courageous battle for the past several weeks but, sadly, succumbed to complications from Rheumatoid Arthritis, Acute Ulcerative Colitis and Pneumonia," the message stated. "The FREY family would like to thank everyone who joined GLENN to fight this fight and hoped and prayed for his recovery. Words can neither describe our sorrow, nor our love and respect for all that he has given to us, his family, the music community & millions of fans worldwide."

Hockey Night in Canada - 1970 Here are the first five minutes of a Hockey Night in Canada broadcast from Toronto from February 7, 1970. The Oakland Seals are the visitors who face Toronto at Maple Leaf Gardens. The classic HNIC theme is heard. Two Molson beer commercials are shown. There's opening commentary by host Ward Cornell. P.A. announcer Paul Harris instructs the crowd to rise for the national anthem. An instrumental version of O Canada is played. Play-by-play man Bill Hewitt sets the scene...and the puck is dropped.

Little House on the Prairie Set Today The Big Sky Ranch was where the classic NBC series Little House on the Prairie was shot during it nine-year run (1974 to 1983). The wooden buildings no longer exist. (One of the conditions for LHOP to use the venue stated that the buildings used in the show had to be dismantled once the series ended.) Here's what the ranch looks like today--along with what it looked like when the show was in production.

2002 MLB All-Star Game Controversial Tie While the other three major North American team sports' All-Star Games have become farces, baseball's mid-summer classic still retains its luster for being competitive and hard-fought, and unchanged in its format since it was first played in 1933. Since day one it's always been the American League versus the National League. At the 2002 ASG in Milwaukee, however, the game suffered a huge public-relations blow because it was stopped after 11 innings deadlocked at 7-7, when both teams ran out of pitchers. This development was the result of a change in ASG philosophy that strongly encouraged managers to use everyone on the bench. The days of Willie Mays playing in the ASG from start to finish (which he did 11 times) were gone. Instead, managers liberally moved players in and out of the lineup so that it resembled something akin to a softball game at a church picnic where, to avoid hurt feelings, everyone participates. Commissioner Bud Selig made the decision to halt the game in consultation with the umpiring crew and both managers. The crowd of more than 41,000 spectators was outraged that the game ended without a winner. Furthermore, no MVP was selected because of the inconclusive outcome--a strange decision did not make a lot of sense. The following year, as a way to make the contest more meaningful, it was decided that whichever league won the ASG would get home field advantage for the World Series that autumn. That policy, which had its supporters and detractors, was kept until 2016.
