Babe Dahlgren Replaces Lou Gehrig On Tuesday, May 2, 1939, Lou Gehrig did not play for the New York Yankees for the first time in nearly 14 years, a streak that lasted 2,130 consecutive games. Gehrig's final game was two days earlier on April 30. His replacement at first base that day in Detroit was Ellsworth (Babe) Dahlgren a ballplayer who would likely be known to only hard-core fans if not for his connection to Lou Gehrig's "iron man" streak. This short clip is from a 1989 interview in which the 77-year-old Dahlgren recalls the historic game in which Gehrig sat himself out.

Babe Ruth - Just Pals This 1931 film, titled Just Pals, was one of a series of short baseball instructional films that Babe Ruth made in the early 1930s. The plot is a little bit on the corny side, but it is a fun peek back in time. Ruth was still in pretty good shape in 1931.
