Who shot J.R.? was a mass media-manufactured open question in 1980. In the CBS television series Dallas, the character of J.R. Ewing, played by Larry Hagman, was shot by an unknown assailant in the final scene of its 1979-1980 season, which aired on March 21, 1980 and was entitled A House Divided.
Viewers had to wait all summer, and most of the fall due to a Hollywood actors' strike, to learn whether J.R. would survive, and which of his many enemies was responsible. Security was tightened at the Lorimar studios where Dallas was filmed.
During the summer of 1980, the question "Who shot J.R.?" was asked in everyday conversations across America and worldwide. T-shirts printed with such references as "Who Shot J.R.?" and "I Shot J.R.!" became common over the summer. Betting parlors worldwide took in massive amounts of money. People were placing bets as to which one of the 10 or so principal characters had actually pulled the trigger that shot J.R. A session of the Turkish parliament was suspended to allow legislators a chance to get home in time to view the Dallas episode.
Ultimately, the person who pulled the trigger was revealed to be the character of Kristin Shepard (played by Mary Crosby) in the "Who Done It?" episode which aired on November 21, 1980. Kristin was J.R.'s scheming sister-in-law and mistress, who shot him in a fit of anger.

My Dad asked me to watch this 'old' movie with him . . i thought it would suck! I mean, it had this lame-looking 'spaceman' with his protector, Gort. Boy was i wrong! This classic stars Michael Rennie, Patricia Neal, Hugh Marlowe, and Sam Jaffe and tells the story of a humanoid alien who comes to Earth to warn its leaders not to take their conflicts into space, or they will face lethal consequences (it even has "Aunt Bee" from the Andy Griffiths Show!!)

My favorite movie star ever (Shirley Temple) does a song-and-dance number with George Murphy in Little Miss Broadway (1938). According to Shirley's autobiography, after they had completed this scene, the crew asked for an encore. (Of course Shirley and George obliged.)

October 6th marks the first televised appearance of American Bandstand. I found some interesting trivia concerning the show. It was customary on AB to have Clark perform a mini-interview with the guest band members. Clark says the most difficult interview he performed was with Prince, an unknown at the time of his appearance. Prince was unresponsive and would generally answer his questions with only a hand gesture or a single word. Clark in fact asked Prince how many instruments he played, Prince responded with, "A thousand."
Another famous mini-interview Clark is famous for is one with Madonna, who, when asked what she would like to do 20 years from now, answered coyly, "To rule the world!"
B.B. King and Jerry Lee Lewis were the only recording artists to actually sing on the program. They were uncomfortable with miming their performances and requested that they just perform the songs live on the set. In 1961, Tony Orlando performed his then-hit song "Bless You" with his trousers zipper open!

Rodney Dangerfield Hosts the 9th Annual Young Comedians Special. Taped at his nightclub in New York City, Dangerfield performed and acted as host while he introduced several young comedians who were given the opportunity to perform. Louie Anderson was one of eleven children and was raised on the east side of Saint Paul, Minnesota. He feels that his first audience was his family and many of his early experiences are the cornerstone of his comedy act. He will have you in stitches talking about his dad. His material involves his relationship with his mother and father, and many life experiences. In 1999, Louie landed the role as host of the new version of Family Feud. He beat out popular country singer Dolly Parton for the role. Anderson asked former Feud host Richard Dawson to come on the premiere show to give him his blessing, but Dawson declined.

On June 5, 1973, Canadian radio personality Gordon Sinclair delivered this stirring, pro-American editorial. He had written it in 20 minutes. Simply titled The Americans, it followed his noontime newscast on CFRB in Toronto. The response was overwhelmingly positive. Radio stations in Buffalo, New York asked permission to play the broadcast, which was granted. Soon afterwards it swept across the United States. Sinclair's verbatim editorial was made into this recording (with the Battle Hymn of the Republic playing in the background). It reached #23 on the Billboard charts, making the 73-year-old Sinclair the oldest living person to have a Billboard top 40 hit! At Sinclair's request, the proceeds from its sales went entirely to the American Red Cross. When President Ronald Reagan made his first official visit to Canada in 1981, he asked to meet Sinclair. Reagan told Sinclair that his editorial always cheered him up when he was feeling down.

One of the most despicable incidents in the era of the Jim Crow South occurred in the summer of 1955. Emmett Till, a 14-year-old black boy from Chicago, was visiting a great uncle in rural Money, Mississippi. Till, who was unused to the Deep South's severe racial segregation policies, made the fatal mistake of flirting with Carolyn Bryant, an attractive married white woman who ran a general store in Money with her husband, Roy. Depending on which version of the story you believe, Till may have whistled at Carolyn Bryant, grabbed her wrist, asked her for a date, or playfully called her 'baby.' Whatever the case, the incident resulted in vigilanteism. At least two men took Till from his uncle's home at gunpoint, beat him severely, shot him, weighted down Till's body, and tossed it into the Tallahatchie River. It was found by fishermen three days later. Two men (Roy Bryant and his half-brother J.W. Milam) were brought to trial. They were found not guilty by an all-white jury that deliberated for a little more than an hour. The two suspects later admitted to the crime after being paid $4,000 by Look Magazine for their story. Till's mother put her son's grotesquely bloated and battered body on display in an open casket before his funeral. Pictures of Till's corpse appeared in many newspapers around the world. Some estimates say that 50,000 mourners filed past his casket. Many historians claim the uproar surrounding the Emmett Till case instigated the Civil Rights movement. Milam and Bryant both died of cancer in the early 1990s. They remained unrepentant about the crime until their deaths.

Saw them in 70's Carl Palmer played while being rotated upside down,it's not a new trick.Keith is a accomplished concert pianist.My cuz heard him practicing while waiting on line to see him a few years ago the door was opened he walked in and asked Keith for an autograph he not only gave it to him but spoke with him for several minutes about how he influenced him in getting his degree in music history.OK Keith Emerson The Nice Anybody remember that?
