Son of the Late Dana Plato Commits Suicide Almost exactly 11 years later, Plato's son, Tyler Lambert, committed suicide at the age of 25. According to Richardson, her grandson, a cameraman and amateur songwriter, had long struggled with his mother's premature death at age 36. Plato died of a prescription pill overdose on May 8, 1999. It was around the time of Mother's Day, Richardson notes, making the anniversary that much harder.

Keith Magnuson Chicago Blackhawks' tough guy Keith Magnuson was featured on this Sports Illustrated cover from April 1970. Magnuson's Hawks never won a Stanley Cup, although they got to the finals in both 1971 and 1973. The genial Magnuson was tragically killed in a traffic accident in a Toronto suburb on December 15, 2003. He was a passenger in a car driven by former NHLer Rob Ramage. (The men were attending a funeral of a fellow NHLPA member.) Ramage was convicted of driving while intoxicated. Magnuson's estate was awarded $9.5 million in damages to be paid by Ramage and the car rental agency that had rented the vehicle to Ramage.

Art Linkletter Passes at age 97 Art Linkletter, whose "People Are Funny" and "House Party" shows entertained millions of TV viewers in the 1950s and '60s with the funny side of ordinary folks and who remained active as a writer and speaker through his ninth decade, died Wednesday. He was 97. Linkletter died at his home in the Bel-Air section of Los Angeles, said his son-in-law, Art Hershey, the husband of Sharon Linkletter. "He lived a long, full, pure life, and the Lord had need for him," Hershey said. Linkletter had been ill "in the last few weeks time, but bear in mind he was 97 years old. He wasn't eating well, and the aging process took him," Hershey said. Linkletter hadn't been diagnosed with any life-threatening disease, he said.

Olympic Lacrosse Lacrosse was an official medal sport in two Summer Olympics: 1904 and 1908. Canada won both 'tournaments' (if you can call them that). In 1904 at St. Louis there were only three teams competing. Two of them were Canadian. In 1908, the tourney in London consisted of one game between Canada and Great Britain. It was played more than three months after the other Olympic events had concluded! This photograph is from that game, won by Canada 14-10.

The Terror of Tiny Town One of Hollywood's true curiosities was The Terror of Tiny Town (1938)--an all-midget musical western! The cowboys ride Shetland ponies and enter the saloon by walking under its swinging doors! Many of the cast members would also play Munchkins in The Wizard of Oz in 1939.
