Snagglepuss One of my favorites! He's got so much personality! Snagglepuss originally appeared in 1959 as a minor character on episodes of 'Quick Draw McGraw', 'Augie Doggie', and 'Snooper & Blabber'. The character proved to have such appeal that he was given his own segment on The Yogi Bear Show when it premiered in 1961. Snagglepuss's favorite sayings were 'Exit stage left' and 'Heavens to Murgatroid.' In the '70s and '80s Snagglepuss appeared with other Hanna-Barbera stars on shows like Yogi's Gang (1973), Scooby's All-Star Laff-A-Lympics (1977-1979), and Yogi's Treasure Hunt (1985-1988). Snagglepuss's memorable voice was provided by supreme voice artist, Daws Butler, who was Hanna-Barbera's most prolific actor, providing the voices of Yogi Bear, Huckleberry Hound, Dixie, Mr. Jinks, Quick Draw, Baba Looey, Snuffles the dog, Augie Doggie, Peter Potamus, Wally Gator, Hokey Wolf, Snooper, and Blabber, as well as providing the voice of Cap'N Crunch for Jay Ward.

Sidd Finch Hoax 1985 On April 1, 1985, Sports Illustrated perpetrated a classic journalistic hoax as an April Fools joke. George Plimpton authored a feature story titled 'The Curious Case of Sidd Finch.' It was about a mysterious rookie pitcher who was the talk of the New York Mets' spring training camp. The story said Finch was a French horn player and part mystic, who, through studying yoga, could throw a baseball 168 miles per hour. He pitched wearing a heavy work boot on his right foot while he wore nothing on his left foot. SI got more than 2,000 letters, many from baseball fans who fell for Plimpton's tale. The teaser for the story was the giveaway: 'He's a pitcher, part yogi and part recluse. Impressively liberated from our opulent lifestyle, Sidd's deciding about yoga...' If you write the first letter from each of the words you get 'HAPPY APRIL FOOLS DAY.'

NY Yankees Sing Take Me Out To The Ballgame Here's something a little bit different. From the April 13, 1958 episode of The Ed Sullivan Show: Four New York Yankees (Whitey Ford, Yogi Berra, Mickey Mantle and Moose Skowron) flank songwriter Jack Norworth--the man who penned Take Me Out to the Ballgame in 1908. With the help of the studio audience, of course they sing baseball's "anthem."
