Ideal Toys Astro Base 1960 Part 1 One of the coolest toys ever produced by Ideal! Every Junior Spaceman had to have one! This vid demonstrates the working functions of the main Astro Base Unit. This was totally taken apart by me and refurbished from junk Astro Bases that I've picked up. Look for Part Two which shows the Scout Car in action.

Remco Toys Monkey Division Whirlybird 1964 A mint in the box Remco Whirlybird. Remco made many variations of this whirlybird. This is the Monkey Division variation. Monkey Division was a line of toys Remco made and touted it as their "Guerilla War" line of toys. The had helmets, guns, rifles, bazookas, etc. Another wildly popular 60s toy put out during the Vietnam era. Toys glorifying war began to wane when the reports of scores of soliders getting killed filled our TV screens and the "Living Room War" we viewed on the news became unpopular, also it was more fun to make Love not War and the hippie era was ushered in. Parents began to object to toys glorifying war. The set also came with 25 soldiers, a tank, a jeep and truck. The whirlybird also carried all the stuff and had a working cargo hoist too. You are looking at a rarity. The soliders etc. are not shown but are still in their original package. I've often wondered how some of these toys these toys remain unplayed with? Perhaps it is old store stock and I've also heard that sometimes parents would leave the room of a deceased child the way it was when they passed. That is kind of creepy to me.

Sonny and Cher In Their Glory Salvatore Sonny Bono started out in Los Angeles at Specialty Records as a songwriter in the late 1950s. In 1963, while working on sessions with Phil Spector, he met a 16 year old, would be singer named Cherilyn Sarkasian Lapierre at a coffee shop next to a Los Angeles radio station. She had previously recorded Ringo, I Love You, produced by Phil Spector, under the name Bonnie Jo Mason. Although Sonny was married to Donna Rankin, with whom he had a daughter, his interest in Cher grew until he eventually ended his marriage. Sonny and Cher were later married and although she was reluctant, the pair formed a professional duo, initially known as Caesar and Cleo. For a time, from 1965 until 1967, they were rock and roll's hottest couple, so much so that in some conservative communities they were considered almost morally subversive. Parents locked up their kids when Sonny and Cher were passing through for a concert appearance. Then, as quickly as they started, the hits stopped coming. Later, they ended up with a summer replacement try-out show that did so well that Sonny and Cher were given a regular spot in the CBS lineup in January 1972, with a comedy-variety series. Their recording career was revived initially by a live album, cut in one night in Las Vegas, featuring new versions of their early hits as well as parts of their current repertory. The album went gold. The next couple of singles by Cher, and Sonny and Cher failed, but producer Snuff Garrett, who had been at Liberty when Cher was there, but had never worked with her, was brought in, and the result was Gypsies, Tramps and Thieves, a number one hit that revived their career. After that, The Way of Love, All I Ever Need Is You, A Cowboy's Work Is Never Done, Half Breed, and Dark Lady kept either Cher or the couple in the Top Ten at various times through 1974. By then, however, their marriage had fallen apart, and with it, the success of their TV show.

NIGHT GALLERY THE CEMETERY Ending For those old enough to remember, Night Gallery was created and hosted by the great god of imagination Rod Serling, as a follow-up to The Twilight Zone. The opening was set in a shadowy museum, where Serling unveiled a dark and disturbing collection of canvases as preface to a highly diverse anthology of tales in the fantasy, horror, and supernatural vein. The first story from the 1969 pilot of Night Gallery, entitled The Cemetery. A black sheep nephew (McDowell, naturally) murders his ailing uncle (George McReady) for the inheritance, only to find some disturbing changes in the old man's painting of the family graveyard. Some good acting as well from Ossie Davis. The night I first watched this I was all alone, mom was working late, dad was sleeping, and I was on the floor in front of the tv having the living daylights scared out of me. I just loved it!!

First Issue Beauty Parade Beauty Parade was the first of Robert Harrison's series of girlie magazines, published in October 1941. At the time Harrison was working for Martin Quigley, the publisher of "Motion Picture Daily" and "Motion Picture Herald", the story goes that Harrison used to paste together Beauty Parade single handedly in the office after the rest of the staff had gone home. Compared to his later titles, Beauty Parade was alot tamer, although it still featured one of main characteristics of all his magazines, the photostory.

HOME IMPROVEMENT The Dishwasher This highly successful series ran from 1991-1999. This clip centered around Tim and Mark working on the dishwasher, with the usual disastrous results. Mark was the youngest son of three and always believed what his brothers told him (for example, that the whole family but him were aliens and that he was not Tim and Jill's natural son), until Jill explained it to him. At the beginning, Mark was portrayed as slightly naive and in constant admiration of his father, but with age came wisdom to see the truth lol

Happy Birthday Barbara Walters Barbara Jill Walters was born September 25, 1929. She is an American journalist, writer and media personality who has been a regular fixture on morning television shows (Today and The View), an evening news magazine (20/20), and on The ABC Evening News as the first female evening news anchor. Walters was first known as a popular TV morning news anchor for over 10 years on NBC's Today, where she worked with Hugh Downs and later hosts Frank McGee and Jim Hartz. Walters later spent over 20 years as co-host of ABC's newsmagazine 20/20. She was the first woman to co-anchor the network evening news, working with Harry Reasoner on The ABC Evening News. With all due respect to Ms Walters, I just couldn't help myself with this one.
