Willie and Joe Perhaps some of you may remember "Willie and Joe." The two World War II infantry grunts created by Bill Mauldin. His famous infantrymen cartoons were featured in "Stars and Stripes," the American soldier's newspaper. The cartoons would depict life as the average American soldier would live it during wartime. Some were comical, others brought home the ugliness and tragedies of war. He didn't get along very well with most officers because would poke fun at them in his cartoons. This would irritate the younger officers and some older ones alike. Gen. George Patton wanted him to stop drawing his cartoons but apparently the morale of the American soldier and the popularity of the cartoons and the good effect that "Willie and Joe" had on it won out even over the General's wishes. These two cartoons came from the first collection of his work compiled in a book alled, "Up Front," which was a best-seller. At age 23 he won the Pulitzer Prize. That was in 1945. He was assigned to the 45th infantry division, and was wounded by a shell fragment in Anzio for which he receive the Purple Heart. He also made the cover of Time Magazine in 1958. Bill passed away in 2003 at the age of 81. Bill Mauldin was a great American!

The Ghost and Mrs Muir 1947 The trailer of Joseph Leo Mankiewicz's classic with Rex Harrison and the dazzlingly beautiful actress Gene Tierney....The Ghost and Mrs. Muir" gave its star, Gene Tierney, one of the best roles of her career, after "Laura". she had the fragility to portray Lucy Muir, the plucky young widow who decides to move to the coast against her in-laws wishes. The idea of the film plays well as it unfolds because obviously, what she is experiencing is all in her mind. Rex Harrison's Capt. Daniel Gregg was also one of his best opportunities as a leading man in the movies. He's perfect as the crusty old seaman that refuses to abandon his beloved home overlooking a beautiful view of the sea. Mr. Harrison plays well opposite Ms. Tierney; their chemistry works well because it combines his rugged good looks and her beauty.

Honus Wagner baseball card The most valuable sports card in the world features Pittsburgh Pirates shortstop Honus Wagner. Printed by the American Tobacco Company in 1910, the card is quite rare. Only about 60 are known to exist. Their scarcity can be attributed to Wagner himself. A non-smoker, Wagner objected to his likeness being used to promote tobacco. The company acquiesced to Wagner's wishes and withdrew the card from production--but not before a number had entered the market. The most splendid example of the Wagner Card sold at auction in February 2007 for $2.35 million.

Cat Stevens Father and Son 1970 Stevens originally wrote this song as part of a proposed musical project with actor Nigel Hawthorn called 'Revolussia', which was set during the Russian Revolution; the song was about a boy who wanted to join the revolution against the wishes of his father. The musical project faded away but 'Father and Son' remained, now in a more general context that reflected not just the societal conflict of Stevens' time, but also captured the impulses of older and younger generations in general.

Easter Greetings to Everyone on YRT I was raised in a home with two religions, and we celebrated Easter as well as Passover. One of the positive points to this is that I was able to learn about two seperate religions. This year, Passover and Easter are a month apart, so I'd like to wish all my Christian friends on YRT a very Blessed Easter.

John Wayne on The Beverly Hillbillies This is the last couple of minutes from my favorite episode of The Beverly Hillbillies (The Indians Are Coming). It's political incorrectness at its best! Granny learns that a native tribe has a territorial dispute with the Clampett land claim back in Tennessee. She expects the worst and assumes the 'Injuns' will soon be attacking. In order to prevent the Clampetts from going back to Tennessee to fight the Injuns, Mr. Drysdale arranges for some Hollywood stuntmen to simulate an Injun attack on the Clampett home in Beverly Hills! Throughout the episode Granny wishes John Wayne were present to help fight the Injuns. He shows up at the very end in a brief cameo appearance.

Holiday Wishes from Senator Joe Lieberman I had the privilege this week to interview Joe Lieberman, Senator to the State of Connecticut. He was also the Vice Presidential pick by Al Gore, and a brief Presidential Candidate in 2004. There will be more from this interview throughout the week with his views on the bailouts, taxes and the controversy of this normally Democrat backing John McCain
