Last of the Secret Agents 1966 Original theatrical trailer. Marty Allen and Steve Rossi, two American tourists in France, are given a multipurpose umbrella and pitted against an international band of art thieves. Among the stolen treasures is the Statue Of Liberty. Nancy Sinatra plays Steve's girl and she sings the title song. Supporting cast includes John Williams, Lou Jacobi, Sig Ruman, Harvey Korman, Edy Williams and Ed Sullivan. Terrible Allen and Rossi film, great Nancy Sinatra theme song! This film appeared on AMC, years ago. Like their unaired, unsold 1965 TV pilot "HELLO DERE!", this didn't do much for Allen & Rossi's career....

Eddie Gaedel Midget Pinch Hitter Probably my favorite sports story is the day a midget, Eddie Gaedel, batted in a major league game. The date was August 19, 1951. The lacklustre St. Louis Browns were hosting the Detroit Tigers in a Sunday doubleheader. Browns' owner Bill Veeck promised that anyone who bought a ticket would see a memorable sight. He was right. Gaedel, all 3'7" of him, took part in a brewery promotion between games. Gaedel, clad it a batboy's uniform bearing the number 1/8 and carrying a toy bat, made baseball history in the first inning of the second game when he batted for outfielder Frank Saucier. Bob Cain, the Detroit pitcher, nearly doubled over in laughter at the sight of Gaedel and walked him on four pitches--all of them high. Once Gaedel trotted down to first base he was replaced by pinch runner Jim Delsing. Gaedel's picture appeared in virtually every newspaper in North America the next day. That same day American League president Will Harridge banned midgets from baseball. Most of the players involved in the stunt relished their connection to it. Jim Delsing said, 'A lot of guys have hit 50 home runs in a season, but I'm the only guy who ever ran for a midget.'

BETTY GRABLE SHOWER OF STARS 1954 This wonderful Musical Variety aired live once per month in the time period normally occupied by the dramatic anthology series Climax! Both were sponsored by the Chrysler Corporation and shared the same host, Mr. William Lundigan. There were occasional plays and lots of music and skits. The most familiar face on the Shower of Stars was Jack Benny who appeared in several shows. Grable appeared in the Premiere Episode. . .

Brady Kids Sing Time To Change This is from a 1972 episode of The Brady Bunch titled Dough Re Mi. You've probably seen it a dozen times: Greg writes a surefire hit song (We Can Make The World A Whole Lot Brighter) and cajoles the other five Brady kids to chip in to buy time at a recording studio. But, oh no, puberty sets in and Peter's voice starts to change! It looks like the Brady kids will have to forfeit their non-refundable $150, but Greg saves the day by writing Time To Change--a song that features Peter's cracking voice.

Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II - 1953 I was surprised to discover no one had yet posted a clip of Queen Elizabeth's coronation--so I took the liberty of doing it. On February 6, 1952, George VI, the reigning monarch of the British Commonwealth, died from smoking-related health problems. He was just 56 years old. By the rules of succession, his eldest daughter, 25-year-old Elizabeth, became the new Queen. She was making a goodwill tour of Kenya when she learned she was the new British monarch. Her ceremonial coronation took more than a year to plan. It finally occurred on June 2, 1953. Here is a four-minute clip of her receiving the various symbols of power. Because coronations happen so rarely--and this is the most recent--few people realize how religious the ceremony is. (The monarch is supposed to be "the Defender of the Faith.") Recorded for posterity in spectacularly rich color, the film looks like it could have been shot yesterday--not in 1953. Because satellite broadcasting was not yet a reality, special arrangements were made for North American TV viewers to see the event as soon as possible. The undeveloped film of the ceremony was put aboard a Canadian fighter jet. A technician developed the film in a dark room while the plane was over the Atlantic. About five hours after the event occurred, the airplane landed in Canada. The freshly developed film was rushed to a CBC broadcast studio where it aired throughout Canada. American networks picked up the CBC's feed. Elizabeth II recently celebrated her 89th birthday. If she lives past the first week of September 2015, she will surpass Queen Victoria (her great-great-grandmother) as the longest-reigning monarch in British history. There's no reason to believe she won't attain that milestone. By all accounts Elizabeth II enjoys excellent health, she is still quite active, and her mother lived to be 102 years old.
