Johnny Carson Confronts Don Rickles Despite not being particularly popular, this series is often remembered for an incident that occurred on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson. During production of the series, Rickles appeared on Tonight Show with guest host Bob Newhart. While poking fun at Newhart, in faux-anger, Rickles slammed the cigarette box which Johnny Carson kept on his desk and broke it. When Carson returned to the show and discovered this, he took a camera crew to the studio next door where Sharkey was being taped. Carson disrupted the taping in order to tease Rickles about it, to the delight of the studio audiences of both shows. Carson also teased Harrison Page by speaking to him in an exaggerated AAVE accent. This incident was often replayed in Tonight Show retrospectives and was considered a highlight of the 1970s era of the show.

Willie Mickey and The Duke One of the best sports songs ever written! (I was really tempted to slot this clip into the 1950s since it is mainly about that decade's three great outfielders. But Terry Cashman recorded it in 1981, so the 1980s is where it rightfully belongs.)

CKLW Back in the day CKLW was the station to listen to. Grew up with this local international station. Located in Windsor Canada. Across the river from us in southeastern Michigan. I remenber going to K Marts looking at the top ten buying 45 records. Remember that? AM Radio was where it was at back then.

Oh My Erica Susan Lucci is best known for playing the larger-than-life diva Erica Kane on the ABC television soap opera ALL MY CHILDREN, on which she has appeared since the show's inception on January 5, 1970. She was nominated for the "Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series Emmy" for her work on ALL MY CHILDREN almost every year since 1978. When Lucci didn't win the award after several consecutive nominations, her image in the media began to be lampooned, as she became notoriously synonymous with never winning an Emmy. NBC's SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE exploited this by asking her to host an episode (unusual for a daytime serial actor), where her monologue parodied the cast, crew, and even stagehands carrying Emmys of their own in her presence...

Then and Now- Dianah Rigg - aka Emma Peel The Avengers Dianah Riggs is known for her role in the British 1960s television series The Avengers, where she played the secret agent Emma Peel for 51 episodes between 1965-68. Her career in film, television and the theater has been wide-ranging, including roles in the Royal Shakespeare Company between 1959 and 1964. Her professional debut was in The Caucasian Chalk Circle in 1955, aged 17. Riggs tried out for the role of Emma Peel on a whim, without ever having seen the program. Although she was hugely successful in the role, she did not like the lack of privacy that television brought. She also did not like the way that she was treated by ABC Weekend TV. After a dozen episodes, she discovered that she was being paid less than a cameraman. July 20, 2008 she turned 70.

Steve Martins Michael Jackson impersonation This is a clip from a show called "The New Show". It was produced by Lorne Michaels and some of the other original SNL and SCTV creators. This was the opening sketch to the first show which was similar to Saturday Night Live but nowhere near as successful. Ran one season. Guests included John Candy.

University of Texas Sniper 1966 The first mass random shooting in American history took place on August 1, 1966 at the University of Texas in Austin. Charles Whitman, an ex-marine, killed his wife and mother several hours before arriving at the campus. As a research assistant, Whitman had access to a loading area where he was able to unload his old service foot locker containing an arsenal of weapons and hundreds of rounds of ammunition. From the observation deck of University Tower, Whitman killed 16 people and wounded dozens of others in a 96-minute spree. His constantly changing locations made it difficult for law enforcement officials to pinpoint Whitman and gun him down. Whitman was eventually wounded by police and then fatally shot at point-blank range. This is the report that aired on NBC News that night.
