LOS ANGELES - Joey Bishop, the stone-faced comedian who found success in nightclubs, television and movies but became most famous as a member of Frank Sinatra's Rat Pack, has died at 89.
He was the group's last surviving member. Peter Lawford died in 1984, Sammy Davis Jr. in 1990, Dean Martin in 1995, and Sinatra in 1998.
Bishop died Wednesday night of multiple causes at his home in Newport Beach, publicist and longtime friend Warren Cowan said Thursday.

NEW YORK - Singer Teresa Brewer, who topped the charts in the 1950s with hits like "Till I Waltz Again with You," and performed with jazz legends Count Basie and Duke Ellington, died Wednesday. She was 76. This is a clip from her 1981 concert.
Brewer died at her New Rochelle home of a neuromuscular disease, said family spokesman Bill Munroe. Her four daughters were at her bedside.
Brewer had scores of hits in the 1950s and a burgeoning film career, but she pared down her public life to raise her children. She re-emerged a decade later to perform with jazz greats Ellington, Dizzy Gillespie and Wynton Marsalis.

Actor Brad Renfro, whose career began promisingly with a childhood role in 'The Client', but rapidly faded as he struggled with drugs and alcohol, was found dead Tuesday, January 15th, 2008, in his home. He was 25. Paramedics pronounced him dead at 9 a.m., said Craig Harvey, chief investigator for the Los Angeles County coroner's office. The cause of death was not immediately determined, Harvey said, but an autopsy could be conducted as early as Wednesday. Renfro had reportedly been drinking with friends the evening before his death, Harvey said. His lawyer, Richard Kaplan, said he did not know whether the death was connected to any problems with addiction. 'He was working hard on his sobriety,' Kaplan said. 'He was doing well. He was a nice person.' Renfro recently completed a role in "The Informers," a film adaptation of a Bret Easton Ellis novel that stars Winona Ryder, Brandon Routh and Billy Bob Thornton. 'Brad was an exceptionally talented young actor and our time spent with him was thoroughly enjoyable,' Marco Weber, president of the film's production house, Senator Entertainment, said in a statement.

Whiz Kids was a television series which aired from 5 October 1983 to 2 June 1984 in the United States. The show was about the adventures of a group of teenagers who worked as amateur computer experts and detectives. The show was basically a copy of ideas from WarGames, toned down and expanded for TV.
The series starred Max Gail as the group's mentor. The cast also included Matthew Laborteaux as Richie Adler, Dan O'Herlihy, Todd Porter as Hamilton Parker and Andrea Elson as Alice.
Richie Adler lived with his mother and sister - his father worked away from home. Periodically, Richie's father would send him obsolete pieces of electronic and computer equipment including in one episode, a programmable robot called Herman. Richie collected these pieces of equipment from his father and connected them together to form "RALF" - his pet name for his computer system which included, in one episode, a primitive webcam.
The show was based on Richie and his friends coming across mysteries which they (mainly Richie) would attempt to solve using his computer skills with RALF's power. Guidance was provided by Farley (their mentor).
The series aired on CBS. Initially, it aired Wednesday nights, but it began airing Saturday nights on 7 January 1984, replacing Cutter to Houston.

William F. Buckley Jr., the erudite Ivy Leaguer and conservative herald who showered huge and scornful words on liberalism as he observed, abetted and cheered on the right's post-World War II rise from the fringes to the White House, died Wednesday. He was 82.
Editor, columnist, novelist, debater, TV talk show star of "Firing Line," harpsichordist, trans-oceanic sailor and even a good-natured loser in a New York mayor's race, Buckley worked at a daunting pace, taking as little as 20 minutes to write a column for his magazine, the National Review.

LONDON - Paul Scofield, the towering British stage actor who won international fame and an Academy Award for the film "A Man for All Seasons," has died. He was 86.

Scofield died Wednesday in a hospital near his home in southern England, agent Rosalind Chatto said. He had been suffering from leukemia.
Scofield made few films even after the Oscar for his 1966 portrayal of Sir Thomas More, the Tudor statesman executed for treason in 1535 after clashing with King Henry VIII.
