Hi to my friends at YRT! My name is Lori and I was born in upstate NY in June of 1968. I was adopted at 6 months of age and grew up on a dairy farm about an hour southwest of Albany. I love all animals so this was the perfect place for me. My parents worked hard to give me an ideal childhood and succeeded. I would often sneak out of the house as a young child to go visit my "friends" in the barn. I love to read my paternal Grandma's diaries... "Lori was up first thing this morning with toys in one hand and a cat in the other." (1972) I think it was my childhood and the wonderful & comforting memories of it that make YRT such a favorite of mine.
I have 3 children, Brianna - age 19, Devon - age 16 & Kayleigh - age 11. I wish they could have grown up when I did. It seems it is more difficult for kids now. There's so much negative stuff for them out there. As much as I love the internet (making new friends, traveling to far off places without leaving home, etc) I think I had a better childhood because of not having it as part of my life. I originally went to college for journalism and dropped out because it wasn't for me. I am not one who is able to always be objective and I don't like the way you have to invade other people's privacy for the sake of a story. I went back to school in for Community/Human Services and now I work as Medicaid eligibility examiner at the Department of Social Services. I like bird watching (raptors) & before I was working full-time I would volunteer with DEC to monitor bald eagles so they could time when to band the eaglets in the Spring. I would accompany them for the local bandings which was always a thrill for me. My other hobby is weather, a real "weather-weenie" as my friends like to call me. I'm a meteorologist-wannabe who was to frightened of physics and math to pursue it as a career. I like to bowl, go fishing and am a pop-culture junkie. I have been told I have a wealth of useless information and take it as a total compliment. I stumbled upon YRT from doing a search for 70s pop culture sites and have been visiting here daily ever since. I love the way a post will prompt my memory of something else and it goes on and on. The people on this site are very welcoming and it feels like "home" on the net. Thank you Steve for the wonderful site and to all of you who help me "go back in time" every day.

I am not being one bit pretentious by saying that I love the beach fronts that seem to make my summertime great! I bet you do too. Did you know that I live five minutes by a secluded beach now. Anyone wanna visit? Some may know,I got a straightforward agenda on here with not talkin' about downers. So, if you don't know this by now, I give up on you! Gotta be natural. I'm here just to bring trotted out happiness and more to your day. It is safer than herbs or glasses of alcohol under the blazing sun of summer. Not such a good idea, but a good time waster for those that can handle that kind of thing. I will say, I'll be here less often, as of now, summer has come already for most of you. The summer of 2010 had things eventually solved in parts of the south that year. What a huge mess that left many dissatisfied! Striking oil is not always a good thing anywhere. Now, I do want to take your mind off all that with the good-feeling that this may bring on you? An interesting hard rattled hook for 1969 that made some wonder what it was doing there? Often, I like to think of the satisfyin' California coast, just as most of you do. Ever been there? Nice area! Longh ago, I remember being moored out there for many "off and on" months with this in the background. Some have said, I should've stayed there considering that there was more for some who like this sort of thing. I can just laugh it off now. An opportunity was all it was. Ever let go an opportunity before self-loathing sets in? Anyways, that is enough about California. Who exactly were the almost forgotten Saltwater Taffy you may wonder? Well, New York was their meeting point, as all would eventually get together as a bubblegum sounding group, brought on by being highly regarded New York "state of mind" jingle creators, together with skilled engineers; both males and females that wanted to try something different. Summertime Girl, not soft as you'd imagine for that time of year, nor a therapeutic cure, but a noticeable odd heavy hook added to make the arrangement quite unique for its time. I really like the added harmonies on it. It sorta makes it sound something right out of that era. Johnny Giametta and Rod McBrien were the main ones responsible for most of their early efforts within the unit that only lasted a few years. As you can see, this is not the Beach Boys or even having to do with Atlantic City saltwater taffy. All in all, just something else that I remembered recently.

In July 1992 Mattel released Teen Talk Barbie. Each doll was randomly programmed to 'say' four out of a possible 270 phrases, such as 'Wanna have a pizza party?' and 'Will I ever have enough clothes?' One phrase raised the ire of women's groups: 'Math class is tough!' According to the complainers, the phrase encouraged the negative stereotype of girls being mathematically challenged. Even though only about 1.48% of the Teen Talk Barbies could repeat that taboo phrase, Mattel removed the phrase from further production. The company also offered to replace any doll that had it. There were few takers. The rarity and controversy of the 'math class' phrase has made it a very desirable collectors' item.

Curious what this is? The cool logo looks the same, but it's a different group, isn't it? Yes and no. You see, there were some changes that had to be placed in order for it to sell.
Debuted in 1964 for two years only, leaving quite the impact on our youths, with quite a bit of unknown history behind it.
But hold on for a minute! Explain! Well, it seems like low-leveled comedy for something that would go on, eventually leaving an impact years after. Did you know it was intended to be a possible cell-toon than what it turned out to become. That does seem unsuitable for what would bring a lot of happiness onto the plugged set. How would've that played out? Totally different, and not long lasting. Does anything like that last?
So, it's from the first month of 1963, unseen for years until recently. Actually, there was another version made in January of '64 with a few perfecting differences. Wanna guess? Easy, eh. It didn't get a "boo" as it was all redone as the 2nd story in the first year with the new changes.
This is a very prominent example to what you would call a "throw back" - a "pitch presentation", but with only about thirteen minutes or so for showcasing. Does this way still exist today? Perhaps?
So as explained, it was redone, just not necessarily the same way, but as something more familiar as what we have come to know. Like something from a childish nightmare.
Example, when it was brought back there were many differences made in the interior of the home. It was requiring more bizarre and old artifacts to give it that shoddy real estate rejection appearance. But still not patterned right, you noticed the big fatherly giant wasn't given any stuffy padding, which made him appear overly thin. As well, in the stomped encounter, he looked curiously odd, considering who he represented from years past in a long string of b&w frights. Later, a few additions were placed that made him more reminiscent.
As well, the young boy was a lot meaner. In the following year, there would be a complete change to the character. He was by no means the happiest kid on the block.
You may notice a strange sheen coming from the their faces, except on Marilyn. This was intended for the spot then.
Did you know that the "normal" Pat appeared from the fourteenth to seventieth story. She really made it look believeable as her dates would distant themselves quick from the gothic house.
Did you know that there was also a Doris Day cutting of sound thrown in from the flick "The Thrill of it All". It just didn't fit. Later, the change-over was so much better for the times with something more beachy. Everything we became accustomed to, eventually it all worked well to a tee.
But, one of the drawbacks towards it was that the spooky Miss Marshall was switched over due to being too close of a resembalance to the other family living in a house then. Recall? What would that be? Too much in common with the other strange household was quickly resolved.
Also, Happy, (is that his real name?) was too much of a pest. He needed to be given new lines.
Unfotunately, the little guy was given the axe.
It was still being repaired as Miss Bev Owen was only in thirteen of the spoofed stories til Pat moved in. Another axe dropped.
Later, from 1988 to 1991, there was an updated version that used most of the original macabresque furniture and other familiar additions from the past version.
By the way, no matter how funny it was, the filmed version from 1966 lacked a sufficient gross to get other series to be made into theatrical films. This included a movie with Don Addams "Smart" character. Ever seen the early eighties feature with him? It had a sexy title. It was made for cinema release, but it looked completely different from previous years.
