Al Jolson belts out Toot-Toot-Tootsie in The Jazz Singer (1927). Historically significant, The Jazz Singer was the first movie to have at least some synchronized sound. The silent film era was coming to an end.

Written by the team of Marilyn and Alan Bergman, this song, performed by Stephen Bishop (whose birthday is 11/14), was the theme for the 1982 hit Tootsie. I absolutely love it! A truly romantic classic, from an era when lyrics meant something. Doesn't it make you want to fall in love all over again?

In 1970, the Tootsie Roll company aired its famous TV commercial featuring a boy asking various animals how many licks it takes to get to the center of a Tootsie Pop. A shortened version of this commercial is still on television today, making it one of the most long-running commercials of all time.
