The U.S.S. Arizona Memorial at Pearl Harbor July 2007 I went to Hawaii this summer in July and we made it a point to stop at The U.S.S. Arizona Memorial at Pearl Harbor. I took this picture from atop the memorial. The memorial sits atop the sunken vessel. 1177 sailors are entombed in the sunken vessel. You have to take a short boat ride over to the Memorial and not one person spoke a word while on the memorial, even children were silent. It was a powerful moment for me and I choked up with tears. The Arizona went down with tons of oil and it still seeps up to the top today. May those who perished on that fateful day on December 7, 1941 rest in peace!

First Automobile Fatality 1896 On August 17, 1896, Mrs. Bridget Driscoll, age 44, became the first recorded autombile fatality. She stepped off a curb in the Crystal Palace section of London, England and was struck by a demonstration car travelling 4 miles per hour driven by Arthur Edsel. (Really! That was his true name!) She was knocked to the ground and suffered a severe head injury which killed her. At the inquest following Mrs. Driscoll's untimely death, the cause was ruled to be an accident and Edsel was absolved of all blame. Coroner William Percy Morrison stated that he hoped such a tragic mishap would never happen again.

Professor Kitzel More memories from my childhood: The Wonderful Stories of Professor Kitzel. The animated professor would introduce short, entertaining lessons about history, science, geography, and foreign cultures. They were great! This episode is about the discovery of King Tut's tomb. Kids today are so deprived of good stuff like this!

Corpse of King Tut On November 4, 2007, the remains of Egypt's King Tut were exposed to the public for the first time. To ensure its preservation, archaeologists decided to remove the corpse from its stone sarcophagus and move it to a climate-controlled crypt in the Valley of the Kings. The transfer occurred exactly 85 years to the day that Tut's tomb was discovered by Howard Carter in 1922.

The Oldest LOL CAT This antique postcard, published in 1905 is of historical importance as it appears to be the oldest LOLcat in existence. Perhaps soon, archeologists will discover an even older LOLcat on the walls of an Egyptian tomb... perhaps a cat with the caption, "I see what you did there!"
