1931 Bela Lugosi Movie Poster Lugosi, the youngest of four children, was born Béla Ferenc Dezső Blaskó' in Lugos, Hungary on October 20, 1882. On arrival in America, the 6-feet-1 inch, 180 lb. Lugosi worked for some time as a laborer, then returned to the theater within the Hungarian-American community. He was approached to star in a play adapted by Hamilton Deane and John L. Balderston from Bram Stoker's novel Dracula. The Horace Liveright production was successful. Despite his excellent notices in the title role, and appearances in some American silent films, Lugosi had to campaign vigorously for the chance to repeat his stage success in Tod Browning's movie version of Dracula (1931), produced by Universal Pictures.

Live 2007 The Lion Sleeps Tonight The Tokens first recorded The Lion Sleeps Tonight in 1961, they were all originally from Brooklyn NY and began singing together in 1955. One of the original members was Neil Sedaka, who left the group in 1957. First breaking onto the pop charts in 1961, THE TOKENS got back on the charts in the 1990s and were inducted into the Vocal Group Hall Of Fame in 2004. They continue to distinguish themselves with the second-longest chart span in the history of Rock & Roll. More than 30 years after the debut of their first big hit, "TONIGHT I FELL IN LOVE", they re-emerged on the Billboard Hot 100 Singles Chart in August, 1994, following the re-release of their chart-topping single, "THE LION SLEEPS TONIGHT." Making the statistic even more impressive, the South African folk song "Wimoweh," which inspired THE TOKENS’ song that went to #1 worldwide, first charted 42 years earlier. No other song title can claim that longevity.

How About Garden Opoly as a Christmas Present i recently had a chance to check out Garden-Opoly. This very fun version of Monopoly uses different breeds of plants instead of properties, with POISON IVY replacing MEDITERRANEAN AVE, and Orchids replacing BOARDWALK. Each player buys garden favorites, collects Clay Pots and trades them in for Greenhouses. Sounds easy enough - but add aphid infestation, water bills and a dandelion outbreak and it becomes a little more difficult... and a lot more fun! Each deed back contains interesting facts such as the appropriate climate, soil and watering for each plant, as well as, fun facts about origin, popularity and varieties. A player may even be elected president of the garden club (always wanted to be famous)... or may be WEEDING, and out of the game for three turns! The custom pewter tokens are: a hand trowel, garden clog, garden gnome, wheel barrow and ladybug...i'm the clog...can't keep my shoes on!

Ty Cobb Day 1924 Detroit Tigers' great Ty Cobb was honored by local dignitaries before a home game at Navin Field versus the Washington Senators on Saturday, May 10, 1924. Cobb, 37, who was in his 20th season with the Tigers, was given a set of books as a token of appreciation for his many exploits on the baseball field. (Detroit's ballpark was called Navin Field in 1924. It was later renamed Briggs Stadium and then finally renamed Tiger Stadium.)

Osceola Flies Again This is Osceola and John Stokes. Osceola was shot in the 1980s and because of that had to have his wing amputated. He would have never been able to fly again if it wasn't for John. I met John & Osce at the American Eagle Foundation in Tenn. where my cousin works. John wanted to give Osce a chance to fly again. It's a beautiful story. The bird on my arm in my avatar is an eagle from the AEF. The AEF is on the grounds of Dollywood in Pigeon Forge.

Hes In Town - The Rockin Berries The Rockin' Berries was a "Brumbeat group" from Birmingham, England, which by the early 60's ended up having two lead singers. One was Geoff Turton, who later went on to a solo career, then calling himself: Jefferson. But while still with the Rockin' Berries, they were heard by an American record producer who suggested they cover a Carole King Gerry Goffin song recently released by the Tokens "He's In Town". The Rockin' Berries version is very similar to that from The Tokens, and a favorite I really haven't chosen yet. In England, The Rockin' Berries actually had a greater hit with their version, Number 3 than did The Tokens in the States, Number 43. Look for their version under The Tokens.
