Last Passenger Pigeon 1914 The decline and extinction of the passenger pigeon is one of the saddest chapters in natural history. When Europeans first arrived in North America passenger pigeons thrived in the billions. In 1800 they were so plentiful that a pair could be bought for just two cents. They lived in enormous flocks that sometimes overspread 300 square miles. However, by the mid-1800s, loss of habitat and the demand for a cheap source of meat doomed the passenger pigeon to extinction. The last accepted wild passenger pigeon was spotted in 1900. The last passenger pigeon in captivity, a female named Martha, died in the Cincinnati Zoo on September 1, 1914.

Taxi Driver Trailer 1976 I lived in the mid-town Times Square area as a kid in the early 70's and later 76-79.This is totally the way it was in that area! They don't have a new street sign " The New 42nd Street" for no reason That area is one of the safest now in the U.S.probally because every move you make is on video in Midtown Manhattan.

Billy Ripken Baseball Card Obscenity Fleer's 1989 baseball card of Billy Ripken of the Baltimore Orioles had an unusual feature: an obscenity on the handle of his bat. For years Ripken blamed a playful teammate for scribbling the naughty message on his bat just before the photo was taken. In 2009 Ripken fessed up, saying he had written the message on his batting practice bat to distinguish it from his game bats. He had just finished taking BP at Fenway Park when the Fleer photographer snapped this photo. When this error became public knowledge, Fleer reissued Ripken's card several different times, with the offending message blacked out or obscured in a different manner. Predictably, the original 'error card' is much in demand by collectors.

Bobby Orr Trophy Collection This is one of my favorite posed sports photos: Bobby Orr of the Boston Bruins with the hardware he had accrued by the age of 23. The trophies are the Stanley Cup (which his team would win twice) the Prince of Wales Trophy (won three times by the Bruins), the Calder Trophy (rookie of the year), the Norris Trophy (best defenseman; won eight times), the Art Ross Trophy (NHL scoring champion; twice), Conn Smythe Trophy (playoff MVP; twice), and the Hart Trophy (NHL MVP; three times). Not bad, huh?

Freight Train How many times have you heard this or even sung it? This clip is from the 50's but the song is a lot older than that. With her is Pete Seeger another guitar picker who helped put down Elizabeth's songs for posterity. Many famous artists claim her as a major influence.
