Harry Houdini Speaks Here is the rare, if not only, recording of the master magician speaking about his Water Torture Cell, sorry his voice isn't very clear, and his wife Bess talks about his interest in life after Death.

KOLCHAK THE NIGHT STALKER Opening Network series that ran from 1974-1975. Carl Kolchak, played so well by Darren McGavin, was a reporter for Chicago's Independent News Service, and a magnet for situations involving the supernatural. He turned his investigative skills to vampires, werewolves, zombies and all kinds of legendary creatures, but in the end he always failed to convince his skeptical editor, Tony Vincenzo, played by Simon Oakland, that the stories weren't just products of his own overworked imagination. I was so faithful to this show, and was so disappointed when they cancelled it.

SNLs Coffee Talk With Mike Myers A Classic Linda Richman's (Mike Myers) hero was Barbra Streisand. She constantly "dedicated" the show to her, often claiming her to be the greatest actress in all of history. In what could be considered to be the sketch's most memorable moment, Myers was joined by two special guests Madonna and Roseanne Barr as two other Jewish women (and they were authentic, take my word!). They discussed Streisand's movie, The Prince of Tides, on the show. Near the end of the sketch, the women compared Barbra to "buttah"-and suddenly, a voice announced, "All this talk about food, I'm getting hungry, girls." It was Streisand herself in a surprise appearance; none of the actors had any idea that she was to appear. All three managed to remain in character as the audience went wild. Though Streisand only stayed long enough to give each character a kiss and wave to the audience, the moment has become one of the most memorable in the show's history.

Clara Bow montage Clara Bow, the It Girl, was the biggest silent movie starlet in the world in 1927 and 1928. (I believe she still holds the world record for most fan mail received by anyone in a month.) She was a natural beauty whose perkiness jumped off the screen. Her career petered out when talkies came in. Many people wrongly assume her voice didn't suit talkies well. Actually her voice wasn't unpleasant at all. However, she was uncomfortable with the new medium of talking films and just slowly faded into obscurity. I think this montage is captivating.

The Great Dictator Dance with the Globe Since Lava has shared his clips of the great Chaplin, I'd like to add one more. First released in October of 1940, The Great Dictator bitterly satirized Nazism and Adolf Hitler, which culminated in an overt political plea to defy fascism. Well before the full extent of the horrors of Nazism had been uncovered, Chaplin's film advanced a stirring, controversial condemnation of Hitler, fascism, and the Nazis, the latter of whom he excoriated in the film as "machine men, with machine minds and machine hearts." This film was Chaplin's first talkie, and his most commercially successful film. Lava, I know you're going to enjoy this!
