WTTW Chicago Max Headroom Pirating Incident During a broadcast of the Dr. Who episode "Horror of Fang Rock" on WTTW Chicago Channel 11, on Sunday November 22nd, 1987, at around 11:15pm, a Video "Pirate" wearing a Max Headroom mask broke into the signal and transmitted one of the weirdest, unauthorized things ever to hit the Chicago airwaves. Earlier in the evening on the same day, during the Nine O'Clock News on Channel 9 (Yes, a completely different channel) the Max Headroom Pirate also broke in - although it was for a much shorter time and there was no audio. Needless to say, Dan Rohn (the sports reporter) was a bit flustered. And no, he was never caught.

Hymn To The Fallen With Remembrance Sunday coming around and the Poppy appeal in full swing I thought I'd add my thanks to all those who served and still serve in the armed forces. Freedom is a word thrown about too easily but for these brave people who knows what our world would be like? 'Lest we forget'.

First World War Casualty Laid To Rest Canada's most famous First World War battle occurred at a French salient known as Vimy Ridge. Heavily defended by veteran German troops, the Canadians brilliantly took the ridge on Easter Sunday, 1917. Some 3,500 Canadians were killed in the action. One's remains were found a few years ago, identified through DNA, and laid to rest in 2007.

Davey and Goliath Intro This Sunday morning cartoon is a stop motion animation series and was created for The Lutheran Church during the 1960's and produced by Art Clokey who is also know for the Gumby cartoon series that also was Stop Motion animation. Most were 15 minutes long and featured Davey Hansen and his dog Goliath who could talk. But only Davey (and us!) could hear him talk. This show taught the Love of God through everyday experiences. This show can still be seen in syndication today.

George Allen career summary I'm watching Sunday Night Football and Washington is playing their long time rival Dallas Cowboys. Something made me think of Coach George Allen.

Whats My Line Esoterica Regulars on this website know that I love this old show. (My 300-plus WML posts attest to this!) The original CBS version of What's My Line aired Sunday nights at 10:30 from February 2, 1950 to September 3, 1967. I was just three years old when it went off the air so I never saw WML during its glory days (although I frequently watched the syndicated 1968-75 version). To make up for what I missed, I've been reading everything I can about this great slice of Americana. In the comment section below, I'll be listing some esoteric facts--trivia, if you like--about this supremely classy game show. By the way, this is a publicity photo of the WML gang from 1955.

Jonathan Winters on Whats My Line Jonathan Winters was the mystery challenger on What's My Line on April 17, 1960. (It was Easter Sunday, hence Arlene Francis and Dorothy Kilgallen are wearing bonnets.)
