General George Custer with 7th Cavalry and their Families There is information here on Capt George Wallace (second from left), who was my husband Larry's great-great uncle. Capt. George D. Wallace, native of York, SC, son of Congressman Alexander Stuart Wallace and wife Nancy Lee Ratchford and 1872 graduate of West Point was the first Southerner to graduate after the War Between the States. He served first in his home state of South Carolina with the 7th Cavalry. When Indian problems increased and Reconstruction troubles were reduced all of the 7th Cavalry were sent to the Northern Indian problems, involving Sioux, Cheyenne, Nez Perce and others. It's interesting to note that his brother fought with the Confederacy. The rest of the information on this photo is in the comments section.

Stuart Pearce Redemption PK It is virtually unknown in the United States, but this is one of the great redemption moments in all sports: Stuart Pearce's penalty kick at Euro '96. At the 1990 World Cup tournament in Italy, England lost their semifinal versus West Germany when Pearce failed to score in a penalty shootout. Six years later, when England hosted Euro '96, the England-Spain quarterfinal went to a penalty shootout. Despite the baggage from his 1990 failure, Pearce bravely volunteered to take one of England's penalty kicks. His reaction upon scoring ran the gamut of emotions.

Stump the Schwab Here's a clip from a game show that sports fans ought to recall: Stump the Schwab. ESPN featured their in-house stats guru, Howie Schwab, in a sports quiz face-off against an array of challengers. In the 80 total shows made from 2004 to 2006, "The Schwab" as Howie liked to call himself, won 64 times--an impressive 80 percent success rate. Stuart Scott, who served as the show's quizmaster, died on January 4, 2015 from cancer at the young age of 49. ESPN callously fired Schwab from his behind-the-scenes position at the network in 2013 after 26 years of service as part of its broad cost-cutting measures.
