Halifax Explosion On December 6th of 1917, the worst pre atom bomb explosion in history occured in Halifax NS. Two ships, the Imo, and munitions ship the Mont Blanc collided in the Halifax harbor, and within 10 minutes, the Mont Blanc was ablaze, and the explosion took place about 25 minutes after that, at approx. 9:05 AM. The top picture was taken about 15 to 20 seconds after the blast from 21 kilometers away, The bottom picture is 2 days following the devastation, with the Imo shipwrecked in the harbor about mid picture. It is estimated about 2000 lives were lost, and without the help of train dispatcher Vince Coleman, who lost his life in the blast, more would have died as a passenger train from here in Saint John was expected to arrive in Halifax momentarily. Mr. Coleman sent a warning via Morse Code stating, "Stop trains. Munitions ship on fire. Approaching Pier 6. Goodbye",and would not stop until he recieved a message back from the train. Mr. Coleman saved about 300 lives, but lost his own due to his heroism.

Farrah Fawcett Update I was sad to learn that things are not looking to good about Farrah's health. Long time partner Ryan O'Neill. Ryan tells People Magazine "The treatment has pretty much ended," that the cancer has pretty much spread throughout her body and "She stays in bed now," O'Neal said. "The doctors see that she is comfortable. Farrah is on IVs, but some of that is for nourishment." Farrah also lost her all of her golden hair. While O'Neal is trying to stay hopeful, he is also dealing with the possibility of living without Fawcett. O'Neal's candid interview comes just as Fawcett prepares to talk about her illness in "Farrah's Story." The two-hour documentary, shot by Fawcett and good friend Alana Stewart, airs next Friday, May 15. "It was never meant to be a documentary," said Stewart. "Farrah just took her little hand-held camera to the doctor one day."

Christmas Truce 1914 One of the most remarkable incidents in history was the impromptu truce that took place on the Western Front on Christmas Day 1914. Beginning late on Christmas Eve, the entrenched British and German troops began serenading each other with songs and carols. By the next day a full truce was on, with soldiers and officers from both sides fraternizing and exchanging gifts. There was even an international soccer match played with teams comprised of warring soldiers. On December 26, 1914 the First World War started again. How sad. Ninety-four years later, in 2008, soldiers from the same opposing regiments reenacted the famous Christmas Truce in the same location.

Shot with her own home video recorder, "Farrah's Story" chronicles the actress' two and half year battle with cancer. Intensely intimate and emotional, the footage becomes Farrah's video diary in which she not only shares her thoughts and feelings but also her treatments in the U.S. and Germany. This is Farrah Fawcett's story in her own words as she explains her battle and her journey with cancer, and it is her narration that tells this story.
