Look familiar? . . the Stanley Hotel in Colorado
reports several spirits, but the most notable are those of the original owner, F.O. Stanley and his wife, Flora. She used to entertain guests by playing the piano and staff report hearing music from that room or the piano keys moving even when the music stops as they enter. When horror writer Stephen King stayed in room 217 he was inspired to write The Shining. . . redrum!!!!

The greatest hockey player who ever lived, Bobby Orr, scores the most famous goal in National Hockey League history--an overtime tally to win the 1969-70 Stanley Cup for the Boston Bruins. Orr's airborne celebration is an iconic image in Canada.

On April 30, 1986 Steve Smith of the Edmonton Oilers committed the ultimate hockey gaffe--he scored on his own net. Hey, it was only the deciding goal in the seventh game of a Stanley Cup playoff series!

This is almost unbelievable. Patrick Stefan of the Dallas Stars fails to clinch a Stanley Cup playoff game with an empty-net goal that anyone's grandmother ought to be able to score. Worse, his gaffe turns into a tying goal for the Edmonton Oilers. (Dallas did eventually win the game in overtime, however.)

It looks like an image created by Hollywood, but it's a real sports photo: Bruised and bloodied Boston Bruins' goalie Sugar Jim Henry shakes hands with bruised and bloodied Montreal Canadiens' star Maurice (Rocket) Richard after the latter scored the winning goal in overtime to give his club a seven-game victory in the 1952 Stanley Cup semifinals. Richard had earlier left the game with a concussion but returned to dramatically score the game-winning tally. Hockey goalies didn't wear protective masks in 1952. Men were men back then.

What a great scene from Stanley Kubrick's 1962 film 'Lolita'. In this scene Humbert is checking out a room he's thinking about renting and stumbles upon his deciding factor. Shelley Winters, James Mason, Sue Lyon and Peter Sellers were perfectly cast! Trivia for this is in the Comments.
