Rick Monday Rescues Flag It was one of those sports moments that wasn't about sports: On April 25, 1976 at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, Rick Monday of the Chicago Cubs heroically snatched an American flag that was about to be set alight by two radical protesters. Monday recalls the event in an interview 30 years later.

Babe Ruth Walter Johnson 1942 During the Second world War, retired baseball greats Babe Ruth and Walter Johnson made an appearance at a charity game at New York's Yankee Stadium. (Of course the climax was Ruth hitting one of Johnson's pitches over the right field fence.)

NY Met Sign Man Passes Today At 83 Before the heavy-metal intros for relief pitchers, before the JumboTron and even the electronic scoreboard, there was Karl Ehrhardt and his signs at Shea Stadium. Dubbed the "Sign Man of Shea," Ehrhardt captured the moods of Mets fans in the 1960s and '70s with thousands of handmade placards. For players who made errors, one read: "BUM." After a clutch Mets hit: "WUNNERFUL." And upon the last out of the 1969 World Series, which the Mets won: "THERE ARE NO WORDS." Ehrhardt died from natural causes in his Glen Oaks, Queens, home on Monday, his family said. He was 83.

Elton John and George Michael Dont Let The Sun Go Down On Me As successful as the 1974 record from Elton had been, it was as a duet with George Michael that "Don't Let The Sun Go Down on Me" had its greatest success. The pair had performed the song at the Live Aid concert in 1985. Recorded live at a concert at Wembley Stadium, London on March 25, 1991 when Elton John was a surprise guest of George Michael, the duet became a massive hit on both sides of the Atlantic. It was released later that year and reached number one on the UK singles chart for two weeks in December 1991 and a single week on the Billboard Hot 100 in February 1992. The song was the only #1 single of the modern era to be recorded at an outdoors venue.
