1920 Houdini Poster In the 1920s, after many years entertaining crowds as an escape artist, Houdini changed his show to expose the methods and motivations of the Spiritualists, a group who claimed they could contact the dead through séances. Testifying against them in Congress, he also exposed their tricks while on stage, an act he turned into a Broadway show. Soon, Houdini received death threats from the group.

Francis Farmer Frances Farmer, known around her home town as the “bad girl of West Seattle” for her spirited, headstrong and magnetic personality, was the stunningly beautiful actress of stage and screen whose all-too-brief career lit up Hollywood and Broadway in the ’30s and ’40s. Appearing like a comet out of the Pacific Northwest to make her film debut in 1936 in TOO MANY PARENTS, during the next six years she appeared in 18 films, three Broadway plays, thirty major radio shows and seven stock company productions – all by the age of 27. She was soon being compared to Greta Garbo...

For Gods sake GET OUT The Amityville Horror "For God's sake, GET OUT!" was the ad campaign for the 1979 shocker, The Amityville Horror. The film was based on the allegedly true story of the luckless Lutz family, who move lock, stock, and barrel into a new home, only to find that it is possessed by the demonic spirits of its previous owners. Variations of the Seven Deadly Plagues emanate from virtually every household fixture, while other forms of otherworldly mischief are suffered by the Lutz children. Enter kindly Father Delaney (Rod Steiger), who does his utmost to exorcise the house. The Amityville Horror was frequently greeted with laughs from its first-run audiences, especially after it was discovered that the "actual" events depicted in the film (based on a book by Jay Anson) were complete fabrications.

The Stanley Hotel Look familiar? . . the Stanley Hotel in Colorado reports several spirits, but the most notable are those of the original owner, F.O. Stanley and his wife, Flora. She used to entertain guests by playing the piano and staff report hearing music from that room or the piano keys moving even when the music stops as they enter. When horror writer Stephen King stayed in room 217 he was inspired to write The Shining. . . redrum!!!!

Remembering Robert Goulet Robert Goulet passed away this morning (10/30) while awaiting a lung transplant at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles after being found last month to have a rare form of pulmonary fibrosis. He had remained in good spirits even as he waited for the transplant, said Vera Goulet, his wife of 25 years. "Just watch my vocal cords," she said he told doctors before they inserted a breathing tube. He was the only son of French Canadian parents, Joseph Georges Andre Goulet and the former Jeanette Gauthier. Though he was born in Massachusetts, his parents moved back to Canada just a few months after his birth. He gained stardom in 1960 with "Camelot," the Lerner and Loewe musical that starred Richard Burton as King Arthur and Julie Andrews as his Queen Guenevere. In his last performance Sept. 20 in Syracuse, N.Y., the crooner was backed by a 15-piece orchestra as he performed the one-man show "A Man and his Music." Robert Goulet won a 1968 Tony Award for Best Actor in a Musical for this performance in " The Happy Time". He was 73.
