ET Diary An E.T. diary, 1982. The Spielberg film was one of the decade's first big blockbusters, and naturally it spawned a whole host of merchandise. The diary is, these days, one of the more difficult to find.

Did This Scare You Out of the Water For anyone who hasn't seen this film, Jaws is a 1975 thriller directed by Steven Spielberg, based on Peter Benchley's best-selling novel inspired by the Jersey Shore shark attacks of 1916. Jaws bears similarities to several literary and artistic works, most notably Moby-Dick by Herman Melville. The character of Quint strongly resembles Captain Ahab, the obsessed captain of the Pequod who devotes his life to hunting a sperm whale. Quint's monologue reveals his similar vendetta against sharks, and even his boat, the Orca, is named after the only natural enemy of sharks. A direct reference to these similarities may be found in the original screenplay, which introduced Quint by showing him watching the film version of Moby-Dick. His laughter throughout made people get up and leave the theater (Wesley Strick's screenplay for Cape Fear featured a similar scene). However, the scene from Moby-Dick could not be licensed from Gregory Peck, the owner of the rights. The final scenes of the film, in which the men chase the shark and try to harpoon it with flotation barrels, parallel the chase for Moby-Dick in the novel. We have this in our library and watch it usually once a month. There's something about this film that sticks in my memory, and no, I never went back into the water.

On The Set with Steven Spielberg In a career that spans almost four decades his stories never cease to amaze, thrill and touch our hearts. 'Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull', which began filming in June of this year, is scheduled for release on May 22, 2008. Spielberg has also begun plans for an Abraham Lincoln biopic, titled 'Lincoln', which will star Liam Neeson as the 16th US President, and is also scheduled for release in 2008. He's also started working on a space travel movie entitled 'Interstellar'. It will be based on real scientific theories of black holes, worm holes, time travel, and gravity. Steven is also planning a motion capture film trilogy based on The Adventures of Tintin. 'Jurassic Park IV' is also in development, and another of his upcoming projects is a miniseries which he will produce with Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzman, titled 'The Pacific'.

Poltergeist Theme This film had a lot of bad luck and theories abounded. Great music though by Jerry Goldsmith and one of my favourite horrors. I like how this theme lulls you into a false sense of security.

1941 TV trailer while there was unfortunate static in the source tape here is the television trailer for Steven Spielberg's 1979 comedy "1941", a $30 million all-star affair released in December to mostly terrible reviews and lackluster box-office. In the years since it has picked up a number of admirers for its crazy energy, and the film was rightly Oscar-nominated for its special effects work (featuring exceptional miniature work, long before the days of CGI).

1963 Teens In The News What? Look at that skinny kid named Steve Spielberg. If only he had tried a little harder he could have made something of himself. LOL And we all know that 16-year-old pianist Andre Watts made musical history right out the gate! Amazingly, 14-year-old Francine Fox earned an Olympic silver medal one year later in Women's Kayak Doubles! At the 1964 Olympic Summer games in Tokyo, Francine Fox and Gloria Perrier paddled to a silver medal, trailing a German pair by two seconds. The pairing was interesting for the disparity in ages, as, in 1964, Fox was a 15-year-old high school student, while Perrier was 20 years older. I couldn't find the other teen in the news singer Nancy Hawk in Google, but these vintage Seventeen magazines have lots of fun surprises to offer!
