Twiggy The scrawny modern supermodel originated with Twiggy, a British model, in 1967. Her real name was Lesley Hornby. She weighed just 90 pounds and had measurements of 31-23-32. Her 27-year-old boyfriend/manager, Nigel Davies, skilfully packaged Hornby as Twiggy, and within months she became the world's top fashion model, appearing in Vogue and Elle magazines before taking New York by storm. Twiggy's cropped haircut (shorter than most boys wore at the time) made her something of an androgynous figure. Her trademark was to paint eyelashes on her lower lids. These became known as Twiggies. Over the years, Twiggy's exceedingly slim figure was blamed for the rise in anorexia cases. Depite her fame, Twiggy remained humble and true to her East London roots. She once told Life Magazine, 'I know I'm not beautiful or glam. But with me funny face, me funny skirts, and me funny accent, somehow it combined to work out just lovely.'

North Korean Soccer Team Punished For Losing The North Korean soccer team qualified for the 2010 World Cup tournament in South Africa. Their chances of success were considered slim. In fact North Korean television, fearing an embarrassment, planned no coverage of the team's games. They lost their first match to mighty Brazil by a close 2-1 score. With cause for optimism, arrangements were made for the team's second game to be broadcast in North Korea. To the chagrin of the communist regime, Portugal routed the North Koreans 7-0. As soon as the score reached 2-0, the signal was yanked off the air. In their final game, Ivory Coast beat North Korea 3-0. When the players returned home, they were publicly shamed: the team and its manager were forced onto a stage at the People's Palace of Culture in front of 400 government officials, students, and journalists. According to reports, the athletes were subjected to a six-hour barrage of criticism for their poor performances that was led by a TV commentator and sports minister Pak Myong-chol. The players were asked to step up in turn and publicly criticize manager Kim Jong-hun, who had apparently been singled out for punishment. He was forced into a construction job because, it is thought, his team's failure was seen as a personal betrayal of Kim Jong-un, the son of leader Kim Jong-il.

Macho Man Randy Savage dies in a car crash "Macho Man" Randy Savage, a professional wrestler who became a fan favorite thanks to his outlandish outfits and trademark catchphrase, died Friday in a car wreck, according to TMZ. The 58-year-old Savage reportedly suffered a heart attack while driving his 2009 Jeep Wrangler in Tampa, Fla., and careened across lanes of oncoming traffic before colliding head-on with a tree. He died later at a local hospital. Savage's wife Lynn, who was riding in the passenger seat, escaped with only minor injuries. Both passengers were wearing seatbelts and the police do not believe alcohol was a factor. The World Wrestling Federation favorite from Ohio burst onto the scene in 1985 and quickly drew attention with his flamboyant outfits and "ooh yeah!" catchphrase. His marriage to Elizabeth Hulette, Ms. Elizabeth to fans, was one of the first high-profile wrestler/valet relationships. They divorced in 1992. Savage remarried last year. He won two WWF championships in his career. His match against Ricky Steamboat in 1987's Wrestlemania III is considered one of the best WWF bouts ever. Savage won the title late that year, setting the stage for memorable battles with Hulk Hogan, who would eventually dethrone him as champion. Savage also appeared in memorable ads for Slim Jim and played a wrestler in the 2002 hit film "Spider-Man."
