One of my all-time favorite boxers, Sugar Ray Leonard, is featured on the cover of a 1979 issue of The Ring magazine. The late 1970s and early 1980s saw a renaissance in the sweet science. Leonard's skill and popularity were major reasons.

I thought I'd seen every weird occurrence at a sports event until I saw this. During a 1993 bout between Evander Holyfield and Riddick Bowe for the world havyweight title at an outdoor venue in Las Vegas, a parachutist attempted to descend into the ring in the seventh round. His chute snagged and he became entangled in the ropes. Reports say Bowe's entourage gave the intruder a pretty good pummeling before security staff intervened.

Hi all. Sorry I had to take a break from the site as my daughter was going through some turmoil and needed my attention. I hope all is well friends.
I have to share an experience that was way beyond cool for me. I have recently been granted access to a local music studio that my nephew’s rock band rents space in and I have been writing songs and practicing guitar up there for a couple of weeks now. Last Thursday night, I went to the studio, and was let in by my friend Tim. He was sitting with a friend, and I set off to the smoking room before I went to work. Tim and his friend come up, and we start talking. After about 10 minutes, I realize that I’ve seen Tim’s friend before, but couldn’t place him. Then he made a comment about when he plays a certain song in concert, some people are really surprised to hear that he wrote it. The song is this one here, Stay Awhile, and the man’s name is Ken Tobias. I couldn’t believe it. This man had a string of Canadian hits in the mid 70s, and wrote this song that The Bells made famous. He is originally from here, but after a few years in Toronto and LA, he made the decision to come back home to live. He hung out with us all night, and was as cool as could be. A surreal moment came when sitting in Tim’s office, I looked across at Ken sitting on a couch and saw right above his head, a framed and signed album cover from him featuring his portrait from 1976. It was a night that I will remember for a long time. He is still very active in the local music scene here, and still performs occasionally. If we cross paths again, I must get a pic taken with him. I will post a Ken Tobias video later on, but I always loved this song. Very pretty melody. Thanks for letting me share a cool memory for me friends.

Here's the Colony, originally built in the 30's, it was the winter home of NYers for years, now it's part of the Club scene on Miami Beach. I often think of the scene in Scarface, where Al Pacino meets with the Columbians for a drug deal, remember the chainsaw shower scene?? I think it was filmed next door. I know this neighborhood like the back of my hand.

This song brings back so many memories for me. Not only did I know one of the group members, I watched the highs and lows of their success. Record company wranglings and fall outs within, saw them have a very short career. The biggest high was this #6 UK hit in 1984.

Some how we missed Allan Melvin's passing back in January. A character actor best known for playing Sam the Butcher on "The Brady Bunch," has died. He was 84.
Melvin died of cancer Thursday at his home in the Brentwood section of Los Angeles, said Amalia Melvin, his wife of 64 years.
The jowly, jovial Melvin spent decades playing a series of sidekicks, second bananas and lovable lugs, including Archie Bunker's friend Barney Hefner on "All in the Family," and Sgt. Bilko's right-hand man Cpl. Henshaw on the "Phil Silvers Show."
But his place in pop culture will be fixed as butcher and bowler Sam Franklin, the love interest of Brady family maid Alice Nelson, who was played by Ann B. Davis. Melvin played the role from 1970 to 1973.
Born in Kansas City, Mo., in 1923, Melvin grew up in New York and attended Columbia University.
He was appearing on Broadway in "Stalag 17" when he began his decades-long television career with "The Phil Silvers Show," playing a role his wife said was always his favorite.
"He was proudest of that show," Amalia Melvin said. "I think the camaraderie of all those guys made it such a pleasant way to work. They were so relaxed."
He saw steady employment as a voice actor from the early 1960s to the early 1990s, most famously providing the voice of "Magilla Gorilla" for the Hanna Barbera cartoon of the same name.
His other credits include several guest appearances on "The Andy Griffith Show," "Gomer Pyle: USMC," and "The Dick Van Dyke Show."

I had to post this, it was the film that gave me such inspiration into my religion, he was my hero. Chuck was Moses to a 10 yr old girl in 1956. Even though the producers took quite a bit of poetic license in the re-telling of this story, it has stayed with me to this day. I'm glad I was able to contact him and I learned alot about this man while he was still in his prime. I later watched him grow old and felt so bad as I saw his health fading, but he will always be an inspiration to me and I miss him.
