Ruben Kincaid aka Dave Madden passes at age 82 Dave Madden -- who played "The Partridge Family's" aggravated band manager on the 1970s TV show -- has died after a long illness at age 82. Madden played Reuben Kincaid on the show ... who was often bedeviled by the antics of the Partridge kids, particularly Danny, played by Danny Bonaduce. Dave's former agent says he died of congestive heart and kidney failure early this morning.

The New Andy Griffith Show 1971 After eight successful seasons, The Andy Griffith Show went off the air in 1968 as television's number-one show. In September 1970, CBS created a new series for Griffith, a comedy-drama titled 'Headmaster,' in which Griffith played the headmaster of a co-ed California prep school. Viewers, accustomed to Griffith playing a southern sheriff, rejected the show. It was scrapped after just three months. Undeterred, CBS then cast Griffith in a more folksy-type role as a small-town North Carolina mayor in The New Andy Griffith Show. Even though it was written and created by Aaron Ruben (who had created the original Andy Griffith Show) it too never caught on with viewers. It was yanked after just 12 episodes in CBS' infamous 'rural purge' when all its non-urban sitcoms were axed. Here is the opening of Griffith's second failure of the 1970-71 season.

Home Run Baker John Franklin Baker was the Philadelphia Athletics' third baseman during their glory years of the early 1910s. Baker first led the American League in home runs in 1911 and earned the nickname 'Home Run' during the 1911 World Series versus the New York Giants. In that series he hit a go-ahead homer off Rube Marquard in game two, and a ninth-inning game-tying homer off Christy Mathewson in game three. His 1911 home run crown would be the first of four consecutive seasons leading the American League. His home run totals during the dead-ball era were modest: He hit 11 in 1911, 10 in 1912, 12 in 1913, and nine home runs in 1914. His career home run total is just 48--a clear indication that home runs were a rarity in the 'dead ball era.'

The Brian Keith Show The Brian Keith show ran two seasons on NBC from September 15, 1972 to August 30, 1974. It had a different title in its first season: The Little People. Total Television describes it as a "forgettable sitcom about a pediatrician in Hawaii." Keith starred as Dr. Sean Jamison. Shelley Fabares played Dr. Anne Jamison, his daughter and his nurse. In 1973 it was retitled The Brian Keith Show. Nancy Kulp was added to the cast as Mrs. Millard Gruber, the landlady. Here is the opening montage.
