Paul Williams wrote the soundtrack for a generation. His songs were everywhere in the 1970s -- you could hear them on the radio, television, movies, and The Muppets. The simple honesty of his lyrics still captures attention and spurs the imagination. This song, The Rainbow Connection seems to fit him so well. Happy Birthday Paul Williams, you've given us happy memories!

Eva Cassidy sings her stunningly beautiful version of Over The Rainbow. Despite her superb voice, Eva Cassidy had only a regional following in the Washington, D.C. area during her short lifetime. She died of cancer in 1996 at the age of 33. Five years later she became posthumously famous after her songs began getting plenty of airtime on British radio stations. This clip was shot by an amateur videographer at the Blues Alley jazz club in Washington.

It was a time, when kids found plenty to do outside the house. It was County Fairs, quiet streets, wish lists, community barbeques, things paid for with cash, if you couldn't afford it you probably didn't need it. A time of neighbors and neighborhoods, of real friends. It was a time of family.
And it has become, a paradise lost.

There's nothing more satisfying than seeing a prominent man of the cloth get caught with his pants down. In 2001, the Reverend Jesse Jackson was the latest in a long line of notable preachers to be caught doing some unholy business with thy rod and thy staff. Jackson, a father of five who had been married since 1962, admitted to fathering a daughter with Karin Stanford in 1999. He was 58 years old at the time. Stanford was the head of Jackson's Rainbow/PUSH office in Washington, D.C. The Rainbow/PUSH Coalition had paid several thousand dollars in hush money disguised as 'moving and contracting expenses' to Stanford. When the story broke, another $40,000 in hush money intended for Stanford was stopped. The scandal drove the omnipresent Jackson out of the public eye for several months, but, as this doctored photo shows, it didn't stop people from cackling.

This was broadcast on the, 'Command Performance,' show, Armed Forces Radio Network February 20, 1945 featuring Bob Hope and Judy Garland. There is a skit a the beginning and Judy sings a short parody, 'Over The Barrel', of, 'Over The Rainbow' and then she and Hope finish with with a portion of, I'm Gonna Go For You'. Perhaps I should say try to finish. Also, being a live program, mistakes are made but the performers continue with an entertaining show. You can also visit her music page at:
