McDonalds Arch Deluxe flop McDonalds has had a few flops on their menu over the years. None was more costly than the Arch Deluxe fiasco of 1996. McDonald's marketed the sandwich as an adults-only burger. A very odd $100-million advertising campaign was launched to emphasize the point. Commercials featured kids who didn't want anything to do with the burger. (Some even said it was yucky.) Surveys showed the bizarre ad campaign was turning off potential customers from all demographic groups. Moreover, the Arch Deluxe was the highest priced burger on the menu, which did not help sales either. McDonald's then tried to salvage the burger with a more traditional advertising approach: This time the commercials showed McDonald's icon Ronald McDonald enoying the burger while doing adult activities, such as playing golf. It was too late, though. Even coupons allowing people to buy the burger for just a dollar failed to save the Arch Deluxe from extinction. McDonalds discontinued the sandwich in 1997.

Elton John If you are some kind of eccentric rich person, or a hopeless collector, you can have a piece of Elton John’s history, a 1904 piano casemod with a 26” HDTV screen, Intel Core 2 Quad 2.4GHz, 2GB RAM and 500GB of storage. And you’ll have more than enough space to make any upgrade you do want to. The “buy it now” price is US$ 19,998.00 and if you just can’t help it and want to buy it right now, just head to eBay...

The Hollywood Ten 60 Years Ago Today The Hollywood blacklist, was the mid-20th Century list of screenwriters, actors, directors, musicians, and other U.S. entertainment professionals who were denied employment in the field because of their political beliefs or associations, real or suspected. Artists were barred from work on the basis of their alleged membership in or sympathy toward the American Communist Party, involvement in liberal or simply humanitarian political causes that enforcers of the blacklist associated with communism, and/or refusal to assist federal investigations into Communist Party activities. Some were blacklisted merely because their names came up at the wrong place and time. Even during the period of its strictest enforcement, the late 1940s through the late 1950s, the blacklist was rarely made explicit and verifiable, but it caused direct damage to the careers of scores of American artists, often made betrayal of friendship, not to mention principle, the price for a livelihood, and promoted ideological censorship across the entire industry. Pictured are Front row (from left): Herbert Biberman, attorneys Martin Popper and Robert W. Kenny, Albert Maltz, Lester Cole. Middle row: writer Dalton Trumbo, John Howard Lawson, Alvah Bessie, Samuel Ornitz. Back row: Ring Lardner Jr., Edward Dmytryk, Adrian Scott.

Hyper Match Game Contestant 1 I'd say this Match Game contestant is the equal of some of those hyper-excitables from The Price Is Right. Time to switch to decaf, Rachelle.
