I got a good laugh out of this one. Notice the sinister look and the fingernails on the Commie that looks like Joseph Stalin. Don't pirate MP3s or else the Commies will come and take away your cell phones, Salad Shooters and Microwave Ovens!

Here are some great photos from the Library of Congress.
I first heard about this when I was a kid, from my mom, who worked as a riveter for an aircraft plant during WWII. Rosie was an actual person, a riveter from Kentucky who represented the six million women who worked in the manufacturing plants that produced munitions and material during World War II. These women took the places of the male workers who were absent fighting in the Pacific and European theaters. The character is now considered a feminist icon in the US, and a herald of women's economic power to come. Rosie and her slogan were featured on posters, magazines, and more. These hard working women were paid a whopping $31.21 a week compared to men who brought home $54.65. Now....over 60 years later we're still fighting for equal pay!

This is a poster advertising the 1920 Olympic Games in Antwerp, Belgium. Antwerp was awarded the 1920 Olympics largely for sentimental reasons. It had been the first war-ravaged country during the Great War. (It is interesting to note that Germany was not invited to participate in these Olympics.) Of all the official posters made for the modern Olympic Games since they were revived in 1896, this one appeals to me the most.

How times have changed! In 1980 Larry King was not exactly a mainstream media personality. He was obscure enough so that he could appear as a contestant on To Tell The Truth with two Larry King imposters.

When the Canadian province of Ontario was debating outlawing smoking in restaurants and bars, this was one of the posters it used. The argument was that wait staff, cooks, bartenders, and so on, deserve a smoke-free environment. It worked. Ontario has gone completely smoke-free in bars and restaurants.
