Rawhide,(1959 to 1966.)TV show was a western, action series about a group of men who drove cattle to market in the old west. There were rustlers, wild indians and plenty of other dangers to deal with along the way.
Move 'em on, head 'em up
Head 'em up, move 'em on
Move 'em on, head 'em up
Rawhide
Count 'em out, ride 'em in
Ride 'em in, count 'em out
Count 'em out, ride 'em in

A video montage to David Allen Coes's "You Never Even Called Me By My Name" by Graybeard1952.Country Outlaw David Allen finally gained gained national fame with this song. A hard drinking, drug using fighting redneck who penned some outrageous lyrics. Many Country D.J.'s refused to play his music. This is probably one of the most played songs in Karaoke Bars (at least in Phoenix-plenty of rednecks here!). I found some live perfomances, but sadly, time and too much booze and drugs have taken its toll, and his perfomances stunk, so I found this montage using his recorded version. This is a another song that will get the crowd hopping! Enjoy

One of my heroes! In 1948 Alfred Mosher Butts, an unemployed architect, invented the greatest word game in the history of the world: Scrabble Brand Crossword Game. He named it Criss-Cross Words and didn't make much money from it. He sold the rights to a family called the Brunots who renamed the game Scrabble and marketed it from their home. It got plenty of rave reviews in the early 1950s. Demand for Scrabble became so great that the Brunots could not keep pace with the orders. They in turn sold the rights to Scrabble to a manufacturer. Over the years Scrabble's ownership has passed through several companies. Hasbro presently owns the North American trademark name of Scrabble. Each year millions of games are sold and hundreds of tournaments are held under the aegis of the National Scrabble Association. (Yours truly is an expert ranked player who directs an official NSA club in Canada. I can often be spotted officiating major Scrabble events. Look for me at the 2008 U.S. Nationals in Orlando in July!)

Eva Cassidy sings her stunningly beautiful version of Over The Rainbow. Despite her superb voice, Eva Cassidy had only a regional following in the Washington, D.C. area during her short lifetime. She died of cancer in 1996 at the age of 33. Five years later she became posthumously famous after her songs began getting plenty of airtime on British radio stations. This clip was shot by an amateur videographer at the Blues Alley jazz club in Washington.

Pittsburgh's sports fans had plenty to cheer about in 1979. The Pirates won the World Series and the Steelers won the Super Bowl. Those teams' respective leaders, Willie Stargell and Terry Bradshaw, shared Sports Illustrated's Sportsman of the Year honors.

It was a time, when kids found plenty to do outside the house. It was County Fairs, quiet streets, wish lists, community barbeques, things paid for with cash, if you couldn't afford it you probably didn't need it. A time of neighbors and neighborhoods, of real friends. It was a time of family.
And it has become, a paradise lost.

From April of 1977, here is part 1 of a CBS special called "When Television Was Young," with the late Charles Kuralt. An excellent special about TV in the 1950s, there is plenty of archival footage here. Remember, this was shown in the late 70s, before we had 100+ cable channels, DVDs, video stores, or the Internet! If you're under 55, this is a great history lesson for you. If you're over 55, you may well remember many of the shows in this special!!
