Claudette Colbert here's a little TRIVIA about Claudette Colbert: she appeared in a couple of DeMille epics in the early thirties like SIGN OF THE CROSS and CLEOPATRA, and considered it a definite come-down when Paramount loaned her to Columbia to make her 25th movie, a little screwball comedy co-starring Clark Gable called IT HAPPENED ONE NIGHT. She thought it was terrible before, during and after the filming and thought so little of her chances of winning an Oscar that she had to be summoned from a train station to pick up her Academy Award. . .

Bathing Beauty this is one of the pics i like from a photo album found at a swap meet in Huntington Beach, California. From the writing in the album, I think these photos date between 1956 and 1969.

A Little Romance with Johnny Mathis Johnny Mathis turned 72 in September...but hasn't aged at all.....he's as handsome as ever and still has the voice of an angel. Johnny Carson, who heard over 2000 singers on his show, once said: "Johnny Mathis is the best ballad singer in the world." Here's a look back to a Concert given at the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles. I hope you'll enjoy it.

2000 Year Old Man The 2000 Year Old Man was a creation of Mel Brooks and Carl Reiner starting around 1961. Brooks played the oldest man in the world, interviewed by Reiner in a series of comedy routines that appeared on television as well as being made into a collection of records. Brooks would ad lib answers to topics such as the earliest known language ("basic Rock"), the creation of the Cross ("it was easier to put together than the Star of David"), and Joan of Arc ("Know her? I went with her!"). The inspiration for the skit was a tape-recorded exchange between Brooks and Reiner at a party. The tape recorder was brought in and the two of them had the party audience in stitches.

Badly written sign Signs featuring mangled English (such as the one shown here) are commonplace in China. The Chinese government has vowed to crack down on those who assault the English language in time for the influx of tourists expected in 2008 for the Summer Olympics in Beijing.

1920 Olympic Games Poster This is a poster advertising the 1920 Olympic Games in Antwerp, Belgium. Antwerp was awarded the 1920 Olympics largely for sentimental reasons. It had been the first war-ravaged country during the Great War. (It is interesting to note that Germany was not invited to participate in these Olympics.) Of all the official posters made for the modern Olympic Games since they were revived in 1896, this one appeals to me the most.
