Bridget Bardot has turned 73. Born September 28, 1934, she is a BAFTA Awards-nominated French actress, former fashion model, singer, known nationalist, animal rights activist, and considered the embodiment of the 1950s and 1960s sex kitten. In the 1970s after her retirement from the entertainment industry, Bardot established herself as an animal rights activist, which work she continues today. During the 1990s she was outspoken about her political views on such issues as immigration, Islam in France, miscegenation, and homosexuality. She is a sympathizer with the far right. So much for fantasies.

Susan Lucci is best known for playing the larger-than-life diva Erica Kane on the ABC television soap opera ALL MY CHILDREN, on which she has appeared since the show's inception on January 5, 1970. She was nominated for the "Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series Emmy" for her work on ALL MY CHILDREN almost every year since 1978. When Lucci didn't win the award after several consecutive nominations, her image in the media began to be lampooned, as she became notoriously synonymous with never winning an Emmy. NBC's SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE exploited this by asking her to host an episode (unusual for a daytime serial actor), where her monologue parodied the cast, crew, and even stagehands carrying Emmys of their own in her presence...

Cleavon Little passed away on Oct 22, 1992, but he left us with some great memories. In this scene from Blazing Saddles you can see why Cleavon should have been recognized in the same class as Richard Pryor and Eddie Murphy for sheer presence. For his star performance in Brooks' classic comedy, he was nominated for a BAFTA award for Best Newcomer in 1974. He died of colon cancer at the age of 53.

This was Michael's appearance on the Sonny and Cher Comedy Hour. Ben was the theme of a 1972 film of the same name, and the sequel to the 1971 killer rat movie Willard, that starred Crispin Glover. It spent one week at the top of the U.S. charts. It also reached #1 in Australia, spending eight weeks at the top spot. Later it reached a peak of #7 in the United Kingdom. It became the first of thirteen #1 pop hits for Michael in the U.S. and his first #1 hit as a solo artist. Later on it was included on his album of the same name, "Ben", won a Golden Globe for Best Song, and was also nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Song. I've always loved listening to this, the music is beautiful. Michael at 13 was such a nice looking young man who had such an amazing talent, he should have left well enough alone.

This clip may have been from Bandstand, the year was 1961 and the music was wild! We were dong the "Mashed Potato", the "Pony", and the "Twist", and we were having a ball! Gary joined record producer Frank Guida's small Legrand record label and Guida changed his name to U.S. Bonds in hope that it would be confused with a public service announcement advertising the sale of government bonds and in that way get more airplay. Bonds' first hit was the song "New Orleans", which was followed by "Not Me", a flop for Bonds, but later a hit for The Orlons, and then by his only Number One hit, "Quarter To Three" in June 1961. Subsequent hits, under the name Gary U.S. Bonds, included "School Is Out", "Dear Lady Twist" and "Twist, Twist, Senora" in the early 1960s. In a 1963 tour of Europe, he headlined above The Beatles. While Gary U.S. Bonds is mostly known for achievements within rhythm and blues and rock and roll, he often transcends these genres, he has been nominated for the Country Music Association's "Songwriter of the Year distinction. He is also an honoree of the Rhythm & Blues Foundation. He was inducted into the Long Island Music Hall of Fame on 15 October 2006, and still performs onstage.
"Quarter To Three" appears on The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's 500 Songs that Shaped Rock and Roll list.

This is one of the funniest sketches I've ever seen. It's about as close to the mother-child relationship as you can get. Mike Nichols and Elaine May created perfectly improvised scenes that were outrageously funny, yet simply understated. Their dry wit and wry satire allowed them to lampoon faceless bureaucracy and such previously sacrosanct institutions as hospitals, politics, funeral homes, and even motherhood. Like other great comedy duos, Nichols and May perfectly complemented each other. They seemed so attuned and at ease with each other that the mis-communication they often based their skits on were all the funnier. Within a short while of arriving in New York, they were the talk of the town, appearing on The Steve Allen Show, introducing a nationwide audience to a humor unlike any on television. Nichols and May spent much of the next three years traveling the country performing together on stage, radio, and television. In 1960, "An Evening with Mike Nichols and Elaine May" had opened on Broadway to rave reviews, but by 1961, Nichols and May would announce the end of their partnership. Interested in pursuing individual careers, the two left behind one of the most popular and imitated comedy acts of its time. Mike Nichols has directed and produced a variety of hit films, such as The Graduate, Silkwood, The Birdcage, Primary Colors, and The Remains of the Day. Elaine May is a two-time Academy Award nominated director, screenwriter, and actress.

Neil Young was nominated for an Oscar in 1994 for his song "Philadelphia" from the film Philadelphia (Bruce Springsteen ended up winning the award for his song "Streets of Philadelphia" from the same film). In his acceptance speech, Springsteen said that "the award really deserved to be shared by the other nominee's song." That same night, Tom Hanks accepted the Oscar for Best Actor and gave credit for his inspiration to the song "Philadelphia". He is part owner of Lionel, LLC, a company that makes toy trains and railroads. Young is also an inventor, and has been named as co-inventor of seven U.S. Patents related to model trains.

Uncle Bill meets Jody for the first time and Sissy for the first time in many years. This wonderful family oriented series which ran from 1966-1971 explored the trials of well-to-do civil engineer and bachelor Bill Davis (Brian Keith), as he attempted to raise his brother's orphaned children in his luxury New York City apartment. Davis's stuffy English butler Mr. Giles French (Sebastian Cabot), also had adjustments to make as he was usually saddled with the responsibility of caring for 15-year-old Cissy (Kathy Garver) and the 6-year-old twins, Jody (Johnny Whitaker) and Buffy (Anissa Jones). Brian Keith was nominated for an Emmy three times for his role as Uncle Bill. On August 28, 1976, after partying all night at the beach town of Oceanside, California, Anissa Jones was found dead in the bedroom of a friend's house, she was only 18. The coroner's report listed her death as accidental drug overdose. Found in her system were cocaine, PCP, methaqualone and Seconal. The coroner who examined Jones reported that she had died from one of the most severe drug overdoses he had ever seen. In 1984, her brother, Paul Jones, also died of a drug overdose.
