Andy Kaufman Mighty Mouse theme You either loved him or hated him, but Andy Kaufman undeniably took comedy in different directions. Here is an amusing bit he did on Saturday Night Live.

Winston Churchill Fight Them On The Beaches Speech In June 1940 German forces occupied virtually all of western Europe. France and Belgium were on the verge of total collapse. The British Expeditionary Force had been evacuated from the beaches of Dunkirk to fight another day. England stood alone against mighty Nazi Germany. Winston Churchill, who had been British prime minister for just a month, broadcast this famous, defiant oration. Listen as one of the great figures of the 20th century delivers probably his most famous speech of the Second World War era. Churchill's 'fight them on the beaches' speech sets the tone of the war for the entire British Empire.

USA USSR 1980 Olympic Hockey It was one of the greatest moments in American sports history--but very few Americans saw it when it actually happened. The 1980 U.S. Olympic hockey team was made up of college players. (North American professionals were ineligible until 1998.) The Soviet Union's state-sponsored "amateurs" had dominated Olympic hockey, winning gold medals in 1956, 1964, 1968, 1972, and 1976. In an exhibition game prior to the 1980 Olympics, the USSR manhandled the awe-struck Americans 10-3 at Madison Square Garden. However, in the medal round of the Lake Placid Olympics, the Americans pulled off an enormous upset, beating the mighty Soviets 4-3. Only those Americans who lived close enough to the Canadian border to pick up CTV's feed actually saw the game live. ABC only showed a tape-delayed broadcast later that evening. (ABC did not want to deprive soap opera fans from seeing General Hospital that day!) Watch the last 90 seconds of the game and listen as a young Al Michaels makes his famous call: 'Do you believe in miracles? Yes!' Two days later the Americans defeated Finland for the gold medal.

Hindenburg Disaster 1937 It was the largest airship ever built; over eight-hundred feet long from its nose to its massive tail fins. It was the height of luxury travel and carried over 2,656 people across the Atlantic from Germany to New York and Rio de Janeiro. It was the Hindenburg. In the space of 37 seconds the mighty zeppelin was destroyed in a fire that killed a third of its crew and passengers and left spectators crying in horror.

Mays was found unresponsive by his wife inside his Tampa, Fla., home at 7:45 a.m. on Sunday, according to the Tampa Police Department. Police said there were no signs of forced entry to May's residence and foul play is not suspected. Authorities said an autopsy should be complete by Monday afternoon. Georgia Tech Beats Cumberland 222-0 The worst rout in the history of American college football was administered by mighty Georgia Tech against tiny Cumberland College on October 7, 1916. The final score was 222-0. There were some extenuating circumstances. Cumberland had signed a contract a year in advance to play Georgia Tech in Atlanta in 1916, but discontinued its football program after the 1915 season. However, the contract with Tech included a hefty $3,000 forfeit penalty if Cumberland failed to put a team on the field against Tech. Instead of paying the fine, Cumberland threw together a team on short notice. The team never held a single practise. One player, a law student, recalled years later, 'We put a lot of faith in the clause about placing a team on the field. There was nothing in the contract requiring us to play well.' Tech coach John Heisman showed no mercy. His squad scored nine touchdowns in both the first and second quarters to lead 126-0 at halftime. Tech agreed to shorten the third and fourth quarters and only scored 14 more touchdowns. In all, Tech scored 32 touchdowns (and 30 conversions). Tech also amassed 1,650 yards rushing on just 40 attempts. Cumberland's rushing total was -96 yards. They did complete two passes, though. Tech did not attempt a pass all game. Most interesting stat: There were no first downs by either team. All of Tech's big plays went for touchdowns. Cumberland's biggest play was a 10-yard pass completion on a fourth-and-28 situation. Despite their historic defeat, the Cumberland players returned to their Lebanon, TN campus as heroes for saving their small school $3,000.
