1964 postcard featuring McDonald's Filet-o'-Fish
McDonald's introduced the Filet-o'-Fish sandwich in the early 1960s in an effort to entice Catholics to the chain on Fridays. At the time, Catholics were not allowed to eat meat on any Friday of the calendar year.

When The Beatles' 1966 album Yesterday And Today was first released, it featured this grisly cover photo with the Fab Four clad in butchers' smocks posed among dismembered dolls and slabs of meat. The public outcry was swift. Some radio stations refused to play any of the album's songs. The albums were recalled after only one day on the shelves and had a different photo pasted on the cover. Recently an unpasted copy of this album sold for more than $10,000.

but i won't do that . . and here's some Meat Loaf TRIVIA:
This was Meat Loaf's comeback song. In 1977, his album BAT OUT OF HELL, produced the hits "TWO OUT OF THREE AIN'T BAD," "PARADISE BY THE DASHBOARD LIGHT," and "YOU TOOK THE WORDS RIGHT OUTTA MY MOUTH," all written by piano player Jim Steinman. After a falling out with Steinman and difficulty in his personal life, Meat Loaf released several unsuccessful albums before reuniting with Steinman for Bat Out of Hell II: Back Into Hell, which was considered a sequel to the 1977 album. This has a very similar sound to Meat Loaf's previous hits, and the bombastic, piano-driven style went over well with his old fans as well as a new generation of listeners, helping make this a massive hit...

Rock stars need beef. They can play forever with red meat and groupies. Here's a funny Public Sevice spot from the United Kingdom about how much energy meat protein provides.

One of my favorite game shows was Dick Clark's Pyramid. Over the years the prize money gradually increased. This is the start of a very early episode from 1973 when the big prize was a mere $10,000. The celebrities are June Lockhart and Rob (Meathead) Reiner.

The decline and extinction of the passenger pigeon is one of the saddest chapters in natural history. When Europeans first arrived in North America passenger pigeons thrived in the billions. In 1800 they were so plentiful that a pair could be bought for just two cents. They lived in enormous flocks that sometimes overspread 300 square miles. However, by the mid-1800s, loss of habitat and the demand for a cheap source of meat doomed the passenger pigeon to extinction. The last accepted wild passenger pigeon was spotted in 1900. The last passenger pigeon in captivity, a female named Martha, died in the Cincinnati Zoo on September 1, 1914.
