My Cousin Vinny I wanted to post a clip from Goodfellas, but as you all know, there aren't any that would pass the language code, so I opted for the next best thing...a great scene between Joe Pesci and Marisa Tomei. I love this movie!

John Hughes Tribute A spokeswoman for John Hughes says the director of 1980s coming-of-age films like "Sixteen Candles" and "The Breakfast Club" has died in Manhattan. Michelle Bega says the 59-year-old Hughes died of a heart attack during a morning walk. He was in Manhattan to visit family. He made a teen star of Molly Ringwald with 1984's "Sixteen Candles" about a girl's nightmarish birthday on the eve of her sister's wedding. Ringwald also starred in "The Breakfast Club," about a group of high school misfits during Saturday detention, and "Pretty in Pink." Hughes also directed "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" and wrote "Home Alone." He lived in Illinois and set many of his films in the Chicago area.

Shocking Blue- Venus Shocking Blue was a Dutch rock band from The Hague, the Netherlands, formed in 1967. Their biggest hit, "Venus," went to #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in February 1970, and the band had sold 13.5 million discs by 1973, but the group disbanded in 1974. Bet you thought it was a male vocal like me-NOPE! Mariska Veres had a very powerful contralto voice, distinct from other females. She did not smoke, drink, or experiment with drugs. When she joined Shocking Blue she made it clear to the other band members that romantic relationships were not going to happen.

Marisa Tomei Oscar Controversy [Note: This is a redo of an earlier post--with a photo that is undoubtedly Marisa Tomei this time!] One of the strangest Academy Awards stories ever focuses on Marisa Tomei's 1992 win for best supporting actress. She was awarded the Oscar for her portrayal of Mona Lisa Vito in the comedy My Cousin Vinny. Immediately after the ceremony, film critic Rex Reed made the stunning claim that presenter Jack Palance had read the wrong nominee's name as the winner. This was an incredible assertion considering that Price Waterhouse (the accounting firm that tabulates the voters' ballots) has two reps stationed near the stage who are empowered to interrupt the ceremony if such a mistake were to occur. (They've never yet had to intervene in the more than half a century of their presence.) Film critic Roger Ebert believes Reed owes Tomei an apology. Tomei herself says the ongoing rumor of her being the wrong winner has tarnished her lone Oscar victory.

Scary Stories 3 More Tales To Chill Your Bones 1991 Yes I know part is the 80's but its in the 90s for the fact that Scary Stories 3 : More Tales To Chill Your Bones came out in 1991 and started me on getting this series in the 90's. Some kids can relate to this and did the same? You know it peaked your interest and you had to get the whole set! LOL Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark is a series of three children's books written by Alvin Schwartz and illustrated by Stephen Gammell. The scary stories of the title are pieces of folklore and urban legends collected and adapted by Schwartz. The titles of the books are Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark (1981), More Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark (1984), and Scary Stories 3 : More Tales To Chill Your Bones (1991). The first volume was published in 1981, and the books have subsequently been collected in both a box set and a single volume. There is also an audiobook version of each book, read by George S. Irving. Reprints of the books with new illustrations by Brett Helquist have been announced. This series is listed as being the most challenged series of books from 19901999 and seventh most challenged from 2000-2009by the American Library Association for its violence. The surreal and nightmarish illustrations contained within are also a frequently challenged component of the original books. To celebrate the books' 30th anniversary, Scholastic re-released them with new illustrations from Brett Helquist, the illustrator of A Series of Unfortunate Events. This has come under criticism from fans of Gammell's illustrations, citing that they are not as effective or as scary as the originals.

Roger Maris - 61st Home Run Here's a rarity: Red Barber's call of Roger Maris' "asterisk" home run--his 61st round-tripper of the 1961 season. Most people have only heard Phil Rizzuto's radio call. This is the WPIX-TV call.
