A vintage Topper Toys Johnny Seven One Man Army produced in 1964. The top selling toy of 1964! It was called the One Man Army because the gun has 7 functions. A complete one in the box commands top dollar! The gun was released during the Vietnam War and I guess they were getting Johnny ready for WAR. During this era, many televisions shows had a war theme, such as Combat and others. Topper Toys was a divsion of Deluxe Reading Corporation who only sold toys on the top shelves of grocery stores and drug stores (out of the reach of our grubby little hands) while Topper Toys sold there line in toy stores. I remember bugging the heck out of my parents to get me those toys and most cost a weeks salary. They don't make em like this any more!!!! It would be a Politically Incorrect! Where's OSAMA???

Probably the earliest flight simulator ever made for kids and one of the greatest toys ever made! Made by the "Deluxe Reading" toy company in the early 1960's, and sold mainly in supermarkets. (You could also get them by mail-order from the old Spiegel catalog and other mail-order firms as well.) You controlled the steering with a yoke as your jet flew over moving terrain, (a rotating scenery cylinder,) controlling your airspeed as you lined up a "target," then fired (actual) rubber-tipped missiles by pulling the two missile-launching levers. Enough dials, levers, chrome and noise to delight any young fighter pilot! It was a blast knocking down my little green army men with the missiles! It used 4 'D' batteries.

In the early 1950s, Jamaican businessman John Pringle bought 98 acres on a peninsula eight miles west of Montego Bay, then sold shares of the former pineapple plantation to his celebrity friends.
The result was a luxurious resort named Round Hill that quickly became a favorite hideaway for movie stars of that era. . .John and Jackie Kennedy honeymooned at Round Hill.

A vintage Jimmy Jet in action. Deluxe Reading sold these in grocery and drug stores and their toys were place on the top shelves to keep grubby little hands like mine from them. I remember bugging the heck out of my parents for this toy and many others. Most of Deluxe's toys were big and fanstastic! The grocery and drug stores had lay away for the items because most of these toys cost a week's salary back then. Please excuse the filming. I was sick when I was doing the filming and looking through a view finder. The lights were dimmed so you could see how it operates.

Here's an ad for Deluxe Reading's Jimmy Jet. It's a page from a 1966 Spiegel Christmas catalog. Here, the 'Jimmy Jet' sold for $9.98, the 'Super Helmet Seven' for $2.98, and the swivel seat for $5.98. Or you could buy the complete outfit for $18.77, saving a whopping $0.17! Can't beat a deal like that!!

Another great big Deluxe Reading Toy from the 60's sold atop grocery store shelves. You could actually put talcum powder into the tank barrel to simulate smoke. I had one of these babies as a kid!

All you Bewitched fans, I bet you haven't seen this before. It's a Canadian commercial for Lux Soap that Elizabeth Montgomery made in 1966. (The narrator is Dave DeVol, a familiar voice to Canadian TV viewers.)
