Kirk Douglas One of the Best Cleft-chinned, steely-eyed, and ruggedly handsome, Kirk Douglas is a star of international cinema who rose from being "the ragman's son" (the name give to his best-selling 1988 autobiography) of Russian-Jewish ancestry to become a bona fide superstar. Shelley Fabares sings Johnny Angel on The Donna Reed Show Vibrant, increasingly lovely teen fave Shelley Fabares withstood the test of time by transitioning successfully into adult parts unlike many of her 1960s "teen queen" peers who faded quickly into the memory books. She was born Michele Marie Fabares on January 19, 1944, in sunny Santa Monica, California. As the niece of singer/comedienne Nanette Fabray, she was indoctrinated early into the show biz life. Teen-idol status came with her coming-of-age role as the ever-wholesome daughter Mary Stone on "The Donna Reed Show" (1958), a part she played for five seasons before embarking on a more grown-up film career. During the run of the classic sitcom, she and TV "brother" Paul Petersen grew so popular that they sprinted to adjoining pop singing celebrity, although both admitted that their vocal talents were limited. Shelley especially enjoyed a #1 Billboard hit with the breathy, sultry-edged "Johnny Angel." The character of Mary Stone was gently phased out of the show as her character "left for college."

Aim toothpaste commercial with Meg Ryan The lovely Meg Ryan is instantly recognizable in this 1981 commercial for Aim toothpaste. (Whoever Jack Read is, I'm jealous of him.)

Twiggy The scrawny modern supermodel originated with Twiggy, a British model, in 1967. Her real name was Lesley Hornby. She weighed just 90 pounds and had measurements of 31-23-32. Her 27-year-old boyfriend/manager, Nigel Davies, skilfully packaged Hornby as Twiggy, and within months she became the world's top fashion model, appearing in Vogue and Elle magazines before taking New York by storm. Twiggy's cropped haircut (shorter than most boys wore at the time) made her something of an androgynous figure. Her trademark was to paint eyelashes on her lower lids. These became known as Twiggies. Over the years, Twiggy's exceedingly slim figure was blamed for the rise in anorexia cases. Depite her fame, Twiggy remained humble and true to her East London roots. She once told Life Magazine, 'I know I'm not beautiful or glam. But with me funny face, me funny skirts, and me funny accent, somehow it combined to work out just lovely.'

High Rollers Remember this game show? High Rollers aired on NBC from 1974 through 1976 and again from 1978 through 1980. It was hosted by Alex Trebek. At one time the lovely Ruta Lee was his assistant. In this episode from May 1980, Trebek works solo. Nice hairdo, Alex!

Greta Garbo laughs in Ninotchka 1939 My favourite scene from one of the many great movies that Ernst Lubitsch directed. One of the reasons why I love all films! Greta Garbo plays this tough, cold, extremely serious Russian who ends up being a lovely, shiny, funny woman, full of love and full of life. Starring beautiful Greta Garbo and the great Melvyn Douglas.
