The Clangers British stop motion animated children's television series. The first episode was broadcast by the BBC on November 16, 1969 and a further twenty-five episodes were made. The twenty sixth episode was broadcast on November 10, 1972 and the final Clangers programme was a four minute election special on October 10, 1974. The programme featured a number of small creatures living in peace and harmony on - and in - a small, hollow planet far far away, nourished by Blue String Pudding, and Green Soup harvested from the planet's volcanic soup wells by the Soup Dragon. The Clangers looked similar to mice and anteaters, though they were pink, wore clothes, and spoke in whistles. These whistles (performed on swanee whistles)followed the rhythm and intonation of a script in the English language, including swear-words!

Look Homeward Angel Does anyone else remember this wonderful song? I loved all these tearjerkers...still do. The Monarchs were a very popular local group that traveled extensively to promote their records. They appeared on the Alan Freed TV show and appeared in concert with national groups such as The Beach Boys, The Four Seasons, Glen Campbell and Del Shannon to name a few. The group members were Leon Middleton, Dusty Miller, Ernie Donnell, Butch Snider, Mike Gibson, Jim Wells, Louie Lange and Bob Lange. "Look Homeward Angel" was released in January 1964 on the Soundstage 7 label.

The Twelve Chairs Gorgeous Frank Langella (from Dracula 1979) starred in one of Mel Brooks earlier films. The story goes something like this: An aging ex-nobleman of the Czarist regime has finally adjusted to life under the commissars in Russia. He and the local priest find that the family jewels were hidden in a chair, one of a set of twelve, so they return separately to Moscow to find the hidden fortune. We rented this film because it was the only Mel Brooks movie I hadn't seen. Since I'm a rabid Brooks fan I thought, 'Why not see them all?' It was great!!

The Ghost and Mrs. Muir The Ghost and Mrs Muir was one of those TV programs that was liked by the critics but was generally met with a yawn by the public. It was based on a 1947 movie by the same name. The premise of the sitcom was that a young widowed writer with two children buys a house in Maine that is possessed by the ghost of long-deceased seafarer Captain Daniel Gregg (played by Edward Mulhare). After initial resentment of his house being occupied by strangers, Captain Gregg eventually looks out for the Muir family's best interests. Hope Lange had the starring role of Mrs. Muir and remarkably won Emmys for outstanding actress in a comedy series for each of the seasons the show aired on network TV. A total of 46 episodes were made over two seasons. The first season, 1968-69, aired on NBC. The second season, 1969-70, aired on ABC. Charles Nelson Reilly, before he wore a toupee, played Claymore Gregg, the nephew of the sea captain who sold his uncle's house to Mrs. Muir. This is the opening montage.

Mr. T and Tina - 1976 Sitcom Flop Mr. T and Tina was a forgettable ABC sitcom that aired for just five episodes on ABC in the fall of 1976. (Four other episodes were made but never aired.) It starred Pat Morita who had played restaurateur Arnold on Happy Days. Morita had also appeared on an episode of Welcome Back, Kotter as eccentric inventor Taro Takahashi. ABC bigwigs thought the character had the strength to successfully carry a series. Nope. Viewers still associated Morita with Happy Days and never took a liking to the wacky inventor. Nevertheless, the show was the first American sitcom centered on a person of Asian descent. In the series Morita played a widowed Japanese inventor who hires free-spirited Tina Kelly (Susan Blanchard) to be a governess for his children. Also in the cast was Ted Lange who, thanks to this show's quick cancellation, was able to sign onto a more successful ABC series--The Love Boat. Morita went on to co-star in the equally short-lived series Blansky's Beauties a few months later, making him one of the few actors to star in two unsuccessful, unrelated TV series during the same season.
