In 1933, this supposed baby picture of Adolf Hitler circulated in newspapers in England and the United States. When it appeared in the Chicago Tribune in October 1933, the German consulate in that city denounced the photo as a hoax and provided a real baby photo of Hitler (which I posted on this website a little while ago). The hoax photo came from the London Bureau of Acme Newsphotos and originated from an unknown source in Austria. In 1938, Mrs. Harriet Downs of Lakewood, Ohio saw the photo in a magazine and recognized it as a doctored version of a photo of her two-year-old son, John May Warren, taken in 1932! The photo had been deliberately altered to make the child look sinister. How a baby photo from Ohio ended up in the hands of a hoaxer in Austria has never been discovered. Tragically, the boy in this photo died a few months later, at the age of eight, in a bicycle mishap.

Best remembered for his lead role in the CBS television series Dennis the Menace. Chosen for the role by creator Hank Ketcham himself.
Finding himself forever typecast as "Dennis the Menace," North quit acting and joined the Navy in the 1970s. He later served as a prison security guard in Florida. [3] He is now retired and lives in Lake Butler, the seat of Union County in northern Florida

The halftime show at Super Bowl XXXVIII featured the infamous Justin Timberlake-Janet Jackson 'wardrobe malfunction' in which Timberlake ripped off a strategic piece of Jackson's costume. Dubbed 'Nipplegate' by the press, the result was a crackdown on indecency in broadcasting. CBS was fined $550,000 and MTV was banned from involvement in any future Super Bowl halftime shows.

"The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald" is a song written, composed, and performed by Gordon Lightfoot in commemoration of the sinking of the bulk carrier S.S. Edmund Fitzgerald on Lake Superior on November 10, 1975. It was inspired by the Newsweek article on the event, "The Cruelest Month," which appeared in the issue of November 24, 1975. The song originally appeared on Lightfoot's 1976 album, Summertime Dream, and was later released as a single. The single reached #2 on the Billboard pop charts in November 1976, making it Lightfoot's second most successful (in terms of chart position) single. 1976.

Many people wrongly assume that when the American hockey team beat the Soviet Union 4-3 in Lake Placid they captured the 1980 Olympic gold medals. Nope. The modified round-robin format of the tournament meant the Americans still had to play Finland two days later--and win--to assure themselves of the gold. In this clip Rob McLanahan scores a third-period goal to put the USA up 3-2. The home team eventually won 4-2 to take all the marbles.
